Am I supposed to have a rubber gasket on the underside of the rear edge of the rear trunk, where it sits on the 2 bumpers? Thanks!

    Sorry for the poor pic/graphic.

Does it go across the entire rear lip -- is it placed so that it is compressed by the two hard lid bump stops when you shut the trunk or is it's length between the two bump stops.

Can anyone post a pic of this seal or advise where (or even if) it can be bought from?

It would be great if Matthias could chime in on this one regarding whether the rubber seal was standard and if so, for all years or just specific ones. My 71 Euro does not have this upper seal, nor any sign that one ever existed. My Dino, however, does have the rubber stops on the body. It would seem that the rubber seal on the body is intended to seal against the trunk lid when closed...seems uncharacteristic to have one rubber seal mating with another rubber seal.

No. 23, below, Upper trunk seal (The piece is shown upside-down in the schematic; see Mark's pictures, above, for clarification.).
On my Tipo E, it goes across the back of the trunk lid and stops just short of either edge of the lid so as to be tangent to the side trunk seals (No. 8) while compressing against the vinyl edge seal (No. 16) when the lid is closed. It is glued just forward of the 'bumpers' (No. 15), so doesn't touch 'em.

    Hmmm,
You've a good point, Mark. I'll go out in the morning and measure exact placement & take a couple of pics to compare. My bumpers are not installed, but the holes are there, for reference.
    The plot thickens.

    Coop,

Thank you for the detailed pic and supply source. Does the seal help to lessen the problem of exhaust fumes in the trunk?

Only 206 GT and L-series have a seal on the boot lid.
M- and E-series only have foam corner in the edges of the boot lid.

    Thanks Matthias--

That would explain why it is not obvious how this seal is glued on the lid so that it will contact the pinch point.

The strange thing is that I am sure I bought the seal five years ago because I thought I had one on the trunk lid that was in tatters when I striped it down ---but it has been many years back so perhaps I bought the seal because I saw it in my old parts manual.

Even if it's not accurate, a small foam seal might be a good idea if you don't like all your clothes/belongings stinky.

As I suspected, Matthias would be able to clear this up before every M-series and E-series owner rushed out to buy up all inventory of this rubber seal.

So this begs the question, exactly what is this "foam corner in the edges of the boot lid"? My trunk lid has no rubber/foam anywhere on it...all seals are along the edges of the trunk itself (4 pieces, one along each edge). Pictures anyone?

Ron, they look like this one (self reproduction)
They close the gap between rubber seal and trunk lid.

I remember seeing that wedge shaped seal somewhere online and couldn't figure out where it would go. Problem is, now I can't recall where I saw it!

I have to say, I have a hard time seeing the point of the wedge if there is no foam across the width of the trunk lid, as it is still going to suck in exhaust.
