A truly excellent example. The winner of the SEFAC ( Southern Equitorial Ferrari Automoblii Club) “Dino Ferrari Trophy” Concourse D’Elegance, on the 2013 Show day at Monte Casino, Johannesburg, South Africa.
This spectacular LHD motor vehicle, serial number, 07218, was bought on 9th October 1974 by a medical doctor directly from Ferrari in Italy. It was taken across to England and then to South Africa. It is now being sold by the second owner.
It has just completed an arduous 8 year restoration process which was done, no expenses spared, by Piero Giovanello of Rosso Sport Auto, formerly the Ferrari agent.
    Original colour Rosso Barchetta
The car is 98% original save for seat belts and hence the 8 years of restoration because of difficulty sourcing original parts worldwide.
    The car boasts:
    • Original purchase Invoice of 1974 from Ferrari
    • Original Ferrari new car warranty card.
    • Original Ferrari Owner’s handbook/manual in original leather pouch.
    • Original importation documents from Italy to UK
    • Original importation documentation from UK to South Africa
    • Original jack
    • Original tool roll (some tools missing)
    • Pull down windscreen blinds.
    • Full documented maintenance & service history since new, including restoration.
    • DVD with gallery of photos documenting the entire restoration process.
    • Full matching numbers, factory Left Hand Drive car with original factory colour scheme, supplied new to Italy.

You say the car is 98% original yet it went through a 8 year resto. Excuse me but no way did they ever manage to achieve that.

Dino's are hot property at the moment, just had mine valued and was told to expect an auction price of around £325,000 +

That would shatter the world record and indeed be a third higher than any estimate in any auction estimate for a RHD car. I believe that £236.7k is highest ever inc premium (against an estimate of £130-£160k).

Last one I saw didn't sell at RM a week or two ago with the highest bid £150k, but it wasn't very good.

I was told that from 2 Ferrari specialists. The dino that sold at bonhams for £236K was not a very good example and from just studying the photos came up with 26 faults and some looking serious. The market reacted to it and some dinos went up in price considerably on the Monday!!

It had no particular history or indeed special features, so its fair to say that the market will pay a higher sum for a car of better quality. What that amount is would depend on the day

If I tried to replace my car with one of equal quality I would struggle, very rarely does a original chairs and flares car come on the market, if one came up for £325K and I was willing to pay that then I would. I am not bigging up my cars value for vanity sake either as the higher insurance premiums hurt, I don't want to sell, so price is irrelevant to me.

IMO you cannot reduce the price of a Van Gogh just because you don't want to pay the price, it is what the bloke next to you is bidding.

I just collect data and summarise it. Let's see what the second highest bidder stops at next time. It's not like we ever see bubbles in assets or anything.

I am a corporate financier, and I think corporate finance is currently very undervalued ...

The reserve was 3m Rand (circa GBP184k / US$249k) plus auction comm (6%) so it had to be more than that if it sold.

    Cheers,

    Tony

Dear All. The selling price was R3 265 000.00 which equates to $324 000.00 on the auction day and $308 000.00 at todays exchange rate. The car is very pretty and the pictures do not do it justice.
    Regards
