Hi all, I'm again in great need of help from you L-series owners or other experts on the locking system. I'm preparing my boot lid lock for chroming but are unsure whether the lock is complete. The lock hole was blinded off with a simple chrome cap when I acquired the car, but I found what I believe is the original lock (Or part of it?) in a box of spares that followed the car. I hope that someone can confirm if something is missing and maybe supply a picture. Hi Peter, If you don't get a reply from someone tonight, I'll take a pics of mine tomorrow. Steve 00988
Peter, The lock you found looks correct (does the door key fit?), see attached photo of it disassembled. However, your trunk locking mechanism has been modified/replaced, that whole mess in the 4th and 5th photo is wrong. Your striker support was cut out and that metal strap below added to support a cable release mechanism which not correct for L-series. Originally, there was a latch (P/N 20.26.01) mounted under the trunk lid with a striker (P/N 20.26.10) on the trunk itself. See the last photo below. You can try McCann for the latch. I think you have some welding to do... Andrew Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thank you very much gentlemen! Your input is much appreciated and unfortunately confirm my concerns regarding missing parts though not on the key lock assembly itself. I have no reasons to believe that the key lock is anything but original. It looks like someone mistreated it in attempt to open it with a screwdriver. Eventually it was removed and the locking mechanism was "rebuild". I took the key lock apart and found it dead dry with all locking pins stuck, so maybe that explains the screwdriver violence. I'm now on the lookout for the original striker and the latch mechanism. If anyone should be so fortunate to have these parts laying around please don't hesitate to let me know (I am still also missing an air box lid early type 206). Alternatively I will have to make the parts myself and for that it will be nice with a few more pictures from different angles. The weekend is spend in my workshop dismantling the suspension system.........Pure enjoyment and thanks god all non wear parts in remarkeble good condition. Have a nice weekend and good wrenching. Thanks for the hint Andrew....One NOS latch is heading my way from Dennis McCann; I guess that was a lucky punch! The striker I will have to fabricate myself from your pictures and the latch itself. Peter
A lock with keys has appeared on eBay - Ferrari Dino Trunk Key Cylinder with Key | eBay No affiliation - just thought it might be of interest.
thanks Simon, but this one seems to be a different one (much longer) if anybody has a correct one please let us know regards Matthias
I received the latch from Dennis just before Christmas. A pieces of folded sheet metal with a spring and a cast'ed locking bar of aluminum....The quality is just as you would expect it from a "cheap" Ferrari of that era....- I spent my weekend fabricating the striker as per photos from Andrew and it turned out great (I might change opinion when I have to adjust the boot lid in the future). I also made a choke cable holder based on the drawing from the official parts diagram....I wonder if anyone can tell me if I'm close to the real deal... Both parts goes to plating next week and then I'm a little step closer to having my "nice to have" spare parts list covered. This is the choke cable holder for an E series. I'm guessing that the L series likely used the same part? Image Unavailable, Please Login
Maybe......but on the other hand there are so many parts that's not the same between the early L series and the rest of the 246 series....Hopefully an L-series owner can chime in. Peter
I have just prepared the bracket for an E type choke cable support to be on the safe side.....I will wait with the soldering process until I know if it's the correct bracket for the L series.... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks for the inspiration isuk. I ended up making the bracket as the one you showed for the E series. Peter Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hello Isuk. I was looking at the pictures before start the restoration and the part look different in my L series. I don't have now the pictures with the part zinc plated in the engine after the resto. But I can take new ones when I return to Montevideo at the end of this month, if you need them. Thanks for the response Alvaro. I would be very interested in seeing some more detailed pictures of your choke cable bracket when you get access to your car. It looks like this type of bracket will fit my caburator setup perfectly. Regards Peter
Peter, here is a picture of this engine side of #01100 pre restoration.... any help? Image Unavailable, Please Login
Third time lucky....I have now been able to fabricate the correct choker cable bracket thanks to all the excellent input from the FC society. Thanks Peter Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
