Fastenings for carpet in boot (trunk)

    I've just had to remove the carpet from the boot of my '73 GTS. I had been 'fixed' with what looks like black silicone. Can anyone advise how it should have been fixed and, if possible, show pictures so I know where the fixings should be positioned please.
    The cockpit carpet is fixed with push-fit fixings about 15mm in diameter, which I assume are correct?

    Veltex carpet snaps, originals had 5 prongs but current production has 3.
    Size is the same, and used on the interior carpet too. If you search on ebay etc. they are a few $.
    The stud was screwed into the fiberglass of the trunk, maybe the original holes are still there.

    In speaking to one upholster they are working on getting the 5 prongs snaps back into production. thought I would pass the intel along.

    I would like to ask the questions about the styrofoam below the carpeting. How may of you had it in your cars. I seen to have had one piece on one side. The rest was GONE. Was it something that was for sure there? This is what I have put in matching the thickness and what I think it could have been like.

    I would have thought that it wasn't there originally as it will hold moisture and rust any nearby metal fixings. I'd take it out.
