Thinking of consigning our car. Three documented owners, perfect provenance, 100% original '74 F&C GTS. All options, original matching books, tools, records. <15k miles. Never painted, never hit. Runs like new. Paint is 40 years old, but looks awesome from 10 feet! LOL

Any price opinions, and things I should insist be in the consignment agreement? This very important!!!

The auction houses are all over the car, talking record price, blah blah. I have been ill, and have no energy for the process. Consignment guy has good rep, good record, local guy for 40 years.

Which "consignment guy"? Might be looking to screw you.

If the car is as you describe, it could bring $400K at auction.

You're thinking of the market about two years ago. Mediocre restos go for that now.

Guy has good rep. Looking for terms to beware of, and thoughts.

Should be a pretty straightforward agreement - consigner sells your car and collects a percentage. Usually the percentage gets lower the more the car sells for. The percentage should be about what an auction house would charge you otherwise why bother.

#Would that heap of rust recently sold in the UK have fetched £132K on a private sale...

Doubt it as most predicted £50K GBP tops.

At auction it got silly money for it.

If you have an original C&F dino then its a rare item indeed and would command a premium in anybodys language!

It's original, and the "real deal" as three separate "Dino experts" with respected shops put it. I'm just trying to figure out what the right number is.

I think the above example highlights there is no absolute [sensible]guide to Dino prices. All I know is they are definitely on the upward trend and expect good examples to fetch over £300K here in the not to distant future. Some are predicting £400K GBP for 1st class restored ones in under 18 months. I certainly thought they had peaked at £200K.

    "dino expert" no such thing

    Mike,

It really comes down to who you feel most comfortable with. What types of numbers are they throwing out at you?

Your car will probably be purchased by a dealer who will then sell it at auction for more.

Auction is the only way to go with these cars. A bunch of rich guys with big egos all want the same toy = very high price

That number wouldn't surprise me if there are two guys in the room with money in their pockets and a drink in their hand. :)

Mike- I don't know how set you are in sending your car to auction, but I've been looking for a black 246 that has not been restored. I've been wanting one for a while and still in the market despite some of the recent pricing.

I signed up as a silver member, but I can't seem to access PM which is a bit frustrating, but I'm new around here, so perhaps I screwed something up or perhaps you can PM me. Either way, I saw pictures of your car and am currently in the market to purchase.

Even more interesting is what else he has purchased. :)

I'd heard he also bought the 206 at the same auction as well ($638k) so obviously also a shrewd investor of great taste... ;-)
