    Hi all -

After looking at the "Ferrari dino (73)" colors thread - http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/206-246/132013-ferrari-dino-73-colors.html - I started wondering what the specific code groupings mean, and a few related matters.

    1st NUMERICAL GROUPINGS:
“106” - MOST, but not ALL, of the Metallizzato colors start with “106.”

But, Rosso Metallizzato Light Red Metallic starts with “133.”

Another oddball appears to be 106-G-355 Verde Scuro Dino Green which is not specifically listed as a “Metallizzato.”

With respect to the metallic paints, were the metal flakes all the same size and the same metal?

“20” – solid colors with no metallic.

    “30” - ?

From the Dino colors section - The Dino Register - Production Highlights -

    20-Y-56 Avorio Safari ?
20-A-349 Azzurro Dino Bright 'French Racing' blue

    ???? Grigio Argento Silver-Grey
    ???? Verde Germoglio Green
106-A-38 Bleu Chario Metallizzato Blue Metallic

    ALPHABETICAL GROUPINGS:

“A” colors all appear to have blue somewhere in their color spectrum. (Azzuro≈Blue=Bleu=Blu≈Celeste)

“R” colors appear to have red somewhere in their color spectrum.

“Y” colors appear to have yellow/beige/gold somewhere in their color spectrum.

“E” colors have silver or grey/gray in their color spectrum.

“M” is odd – it encompasses both 106-M-73 Marrone Dino Light Tan Metallic and 106-M-27 Nocciola Metallizzato Copper-Bronze Metallic.

    “B,” ”G,” and “W” – pretty obvious, I would think.

    2nd/LAST NUMERICAL GROUPINGS:

Serialized production numbers? No specific paint code values?

I can't answer the code question but can say that the metal flakes in the various colours are different. I had four metallics mixed up when choosing a colour for my GTS and Nocciola has far more flakes in it than Rosso Rubino for instance so has much more of a "flip" to the colour in strong sunshine.

I find it a bit surprising that the Register did not include the original Fly Yellow (20-Y-191 Giallo Fly) as one of the more popular colors. I'm biased, but comments I've had at numerous concours what that this early color was far preferred over the later one that replaced it.

mark , all you need to tell them at MAACO is that you want "FERARRI RED ". they don't care about the codes. actually the red that chevrolet uses would work for you. hope this helps. dan z.

MAACO said "no go." They demanded to know the metal flake dimensions and density in the Candy Apple Red that I have decided to paint my car. It sure would have been easier if I had decided to pick the same color that you did - Porsche Guards Red. ;)

You're a little to the show, aren't you? I mean, it's been 2 months since this thread died.

I should have bought that one.

I was just talking to Carlo about J Corbani's (RIP) Dino last week, and Carlo still can't believe how great that car handled - one of the best, with those 16" Gottis, and despite the Swiss cheese metal work (not from rust) and the bodged together suspension work. I can't believe that I let you, and a certain "other person" who shall remain nameless, talk me out of it, especially after we drove it. Since that Dino had over 190,000 miles when we drove it, another 100,000 miles would likely have only added to its value. Damn....

Great looking color - even though John had repainted it a Ford Mustang Midnight Blue, or whatever the blue color was that Ford called it.

And hey - I look about 30 lbs lighter in your photo, and I had forgotten about having to mess with the windshield wiper blade after the drive until I saw your photo again.
