General model info blurb on RM's L-Series Dino in Arizona is much the same as the L-Series in its Paris sale in February.

Both contain the same inaccuracy about this Series having the 206's outside filler cap at the moment (imagine it'll be corrected within a few days).

But it's AZ...shouldn't it be "meet for a margarita"?

I may not be allowed near Bonhams since they lost out on the Ferrari California consignment. But I would like to compare the Scottsdale Dino's to my own. I wasn't impressed by the Bonhams Dino's in Monterey this year (for what they were going for).

    True. A margarita it is.

Auction houses have short memories. As long as you still have a car they want in the future, they will forgive your past transgressions.

I'll PM you my phone number.

I took the Dino out for a few last drives yesterday and today. What an AMAZING car. I will miss it. Whoever buys this Dino will have one sweet ride for years to come. I feel so lucky to have purchased, restored and enjoyed the car that I dreamed of owning as a little boy.

    See you in Scottsdale!

I'd like to buy another car. Perhaps a 308 GTB? Perhaps a 328 GTB? Perhaps an Alfa Duetto?

I'm going to stay on the sidelines for a little while. I've got other things which require my focus and I don't want to rush into anything which requires a too much work or ongoing care.

When I used to race vintage cars, I started in FJ and after a few years, raced vintage F1. Even though it was an amazing experience, I realized that spending 4x more doesn't translate directly into 4x more enjoyment.

If I bought something that was 1/4 the price of a Dino, I'm quite certain it would be more than 1/4 as much fun.

    Onward and downward!

    Cheers,

    Keith

    Keith,

I sold my Dino earlier this year and was also sad to see it go. I bought something for less than 1/4 price of the Dino but it is no less fun IMHO.

Beautiful car. I'm a big fan of the 512TR.

Make sure you take care of that differential issue that is so well documented. The fix is expensive but the alternative is even more so.

    Thanks for the encouragement.

Snowsport .... the diff issue was inherent on all 512TR's also......with the exception of the 1994 model year (not sure from what chassis #), which received the uprated component, also fitted on the 512m.

    Thanks Fred.

I loaded the Dino onto a Passport Transport truck at noon. It is now headed south to sunny Scottsdale, AZ. I'm happy to share the excitement of selling the car with all of you. Of course, feel free to bid with confidence if you are in the market.

When the car was restored/painted, I had headlight covers custom fitted but not installed (the nice curved ones, NOT the steeply raked ones from Maranello Concessionaires). The buyer gets those, all of the bills documenting the restoration, a photo book of the restoration, two original sales brochures (1969 production models and 1969 Dino brochure) and a couple of other spares.

    Cheers,

    Keith

Fortunately for me, yours and a few other Dinos are in town for me to look at when I need a Dino fix.

Did you drive your Dino over the past three days while the sun was out?

Tom- your Dino lives back on the East Coast! It may not have its paint on yet nor its interior or engine,,,but be certain that its reincarnation is being worked on !! My '71 hopefully will be close to being finished in 2015! It will look just like yours did!! Thanks for the inspiration!!

Lovely photo, wish I could have stopped by before it went... So sorry.
You need another excuse to do Padova :)

    Yep, and yep... :)

In the grand scheme of things that might go wrong, this isn't that big of a deal. Replace around or before 50k miles depending on your level of paranoia... Best left for the tr/512 section discussion.. Loads of opinions on this issue.

I'm not one to get wrapped up in the market but I will look at the results with some interest. Part of me says that the music is coming to an end and that the January auctions will not yield continued record prices. Just an opinion based on a 'feel' I'm getting. Maybe I'm right and maybe I'm wrong as I have plenty of experience with both :)

I am obviously anxious about the auction. I feel torn because I want to yield the maximum amount for my car and yet a rising tide lifts all boats including the less expensive Ferraris I am considering at some point in the future (e.g. 308 GTB, 328 GTB, 512TR).

There are a few things that I am fairly certain of:

    1) Attempting to "time the market" is difficult but if you are buying a Ferrari you can afford and plan to keep it for a long time, it should bring you lots of joy and won't be a financial disaster.

    2) The US dollar is currently strong against the Euro, Pound, CDN dollar and Japanese Yen and so I believe fewer cars will go out of the US from this auction than in past years.

    3) The US economy is strong and car restoration shop rates aren't going backwards so Americans who are coming to these auctions intent on buying would be well served to purchase a fully restored car vs. one that needs lots of work

    4) With practically every kind of Dino model up for auction in Scottsdale, we should have a pretty good idea of what Dinos are really worth at the end of the week.

    Cheers,

    Keith
