    I thought I would start a thread on special tools we use in helping restore our Dinos. Home made or bought. I will start with two tools. Mounting and dismounting springs from the shocks was always a bit sketchy with the tools I had. I custom made this tool to make the job safe and easy. This is now a 20 Minute job to mount 4 springs and shocks. The second tool is something I wanted but for the price wasn't worth it for the limited use it would get. Pretty much all the Dinos I've worked, the windowing latches have been in the glove box. The Loctite product with the activator is what I used but not always the best result. I broke down and bought A UV curing light where now in seconds the latch is PERMANTENTLY attached.

    Well my tool isn't exactly first class but it works. It is a turnbuckle with the ends made into a "Y" and placed between the alternator & crank pulley (or water pump) and used for adjusting the belt tension. I think I paid $5 bucks for it at Home Depot and used my MIG (not a great welder- yet) and it was pretty handy. Jim Selevan is the one that clued me in on this idea…..

    Instruments, especially Clocks, always seem to need repairing and the extended front bezel is fragile which is unnerving when you need to apply pressure to make the critical chrome edge crimp.

    I used a hole saw in an old piece of wood to make a jig that lets the clock's chrome rim sit on the jig edge without applying pressure on the bezel

    This turnbuckle tool would, I presume, be used after the alternator nut fasteners have been loosened. Has anyone yet made a tool that addresses the mind numbing problem in loosening those bolts? Even the top adjuster nut alone would be wonderful.

    Since omgjon already went over the top regarding home made tools i think i can add something :)

    Instrument bezel recrimping tool for Dino dashboard instruments. A friend custom build this for me, based on the original Smiths tool. The box on the left side is a self build digital calibrator for Dino tacho's.

    Adrian you have a way of giving others a real inferiority complex. That 'homemade' tool is spectacular right down to the shaft clamp that appears to be from a Ferrari gearbox.

    Dennison International fabricated a set of door fit pins when they restored 05702. It made install/removal quick effort when working in that area.

    Being german, i just love tools and thus spend way too much time with them :) Syncro's approach is way more sane than mine and will create similar results though.

    Jon, it's not a very sophisticated tool and it is made in desperation some early morning hours.....-:). Don't get fooled by the poor look it's working very well, but could benefit from some further engineering! See below for additional info. All parts are produced from M10 grade 8.8 bolts and nuts. Note the slightly longer "extension piece" shown in the second pictures, that's for driving the pins in completely.

    This tool which is a modified 32MM wrench has only one purpose in life. I use this on the door locks. Any other type wrench you risk putting a dent in the sheet metal just above the lock. Don't ask me how I know!!!

    Die on a 4' bar for final profiling of the smaller size oval chassis tubes, use oil and a 10lb sledge hammer...

    I found a massive wrench to do this same job but your your aluminum one looks so much better. I remember lying upside down looking into the inside of the door and swearing like a sailor when I was tightening that thin hex nut to tighten the door lock.
