Has anybody seen this, $190K sale? https://www.mecum.com/lot-detail.cfm?lot_id=FL0115-208718 Something sounds wrong?
It was announced at the begining of the bidding that the "Chairs and Flares" were added during restoration. This car is a lot of things other than how it is advertised. I can't see the final sale price in the link, but if it sold at $190k, as much as it has stories and tales to be told, it seems like a car one can drive the tar out of. There is more to this car than meets the eye, but given the current market, I don't think the buyer went wrong.....
It also doesn't look to me like Mecum is the typical Ferrari buyer market? Wonder how the car would have done at one of the other auctions...
I'm looking for a 246 -saw this prior to the auction. The minute I heard it was converted to open, I ran. Still on the look.
In addition to its "gender change" from berlinetta to spyder, and aftermarket non-factory flares and Daytona seats, it has the front pan of a late series E, along with the later two-post front bumper blades. It did look good going over the auction block, but then, indoor lighting can be very flattering indeed. I agree that this isn't the usual Ferrari-buying venue, and I also agree that, originality issues notwithstanding, this might turn out to be a great deal for someone who isn't that much of a purist. I might have been tempted myself at that price, if I were in the Dino market right now. Fred
In hind site, I think this car, at this price is possibly the steal of the year. Ultimately, it all depends on the car and how it exists in real life, not just pictures.... Shawn
