Hi All Anybody know where to get a nos rear dino brake compensator I would rather replace than wait 3 weeks to rebuild the old one
I was told by the expert brake booster rebuilder that it is far simpler to take all the guts out of the compensator, as it is useless, use it empty, and forget about it. That is going to be my experiment, if it does not work not, then simple enough to rebuild. Regards, Alberto
The plunger in mine had become stuck, perhaps just clean yours in an ultrasonic for a day? Doesn't take an hour to get out of the car and break it down. Panels 4 through 7 show this order: Master Cylinder and Brake Balancer | Dino Restoration
No idea Scott, as my car was a 'pieces in boxes car', with tons of parts missing, but the compensator was there. Will know when car is back together Regards, Alberto
Regarding: 246 Dino TAV 26 Item 5 Part# 104479 Depressore freni posteriori (BONALDI 14-06149) From the Ricambi America online parts manual: Ferrari 246 Dino Parts : Table 26 - BRAKE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM ON WHEELS Ferrari 246 Dino Parts : Table 26 - BRAKE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM ON WHEELS (This is for an early E-series Italian market car 02788) What are the operational specifications? How is a compensator function test performed? Has anyone used eBay Member misterfiat brake compensator overhaul service (Ferrari 206 246 GT GTS Brake Compensator Overhaul New) or DinoParts.Eu was offering a refurbishing service? mister fiat one eBay: Ferrari 206 246 GT GTS Brake Compensator Overhaul New | eBay Dino Parts (catalog): Ferrari 246 GT/GTS: Brakes: Brake Servo & Compensator: Overhaul brake compensator (Both appear to use the same photo in their ads see image below). If so what was your experience? Does anyone know of any other places that overhaul the brake compensator? Does anyone know of a source for an an overhaul kit? Does anyone have any thoughts as to how much insure coverage I should purchase when shipping my 246GT brake compensator? Thank you in advance. Peter Image Unavailable, Please Login
The Pantera uses the same type brake compensator. You can buy a rebuild kit here for pocket money: https://www.musclecarresearch.com/bonaldi-1 They unfortunately don't have the rubber cap for the external housing. But they have a very detailed rebuild procedure you can follow. Plaese let us know if you find a source for the rubber end cap. Best regards Peter
Excellent link Peter thank you. Regarding the rubber cap there is nothing special about it and can be replicated very closely using a generic push-on cap for a chair leg or cap for a tube. The original cap is merely a rubber cap with parallel sides and slightly rounded edges. A creative trip to the hardware store can probably get you what you need. Here is link for some ideas as to what I am talking about: McMaster-Carr
Why not take the unit (or car) to Patrick Otis in the East Bay? They're a very accomplished shop. I see you're in SF and concerned about shipping. Just drive there! On my plunger dust cap I see the Bonaldi logo with the letters DBC
The fellow that restored my complete braking system, said that it was a waste of time to install the compensator with new seals, etc. He insisted that the best way, is to install it empty as it serves no purpose whatsoever. I will try that on mine, but it will be some time before that happens So, due to the litigious nature of some of the countries that Dinolanders live in, I assume zero responsibility whatsoever on this recommendation. I have never replaced any compensator seals on any of my 40+ years of ownership cars, but I can vouch replacement/re-sleeve for a whole bunch of other Master Cylinders that would die without much warning. Same goes with brake boosters. Restoration, on my part, would be only to give the booster the proper look, and while at it, replace the innards just for safety. Regards, Alberto
