Wiring the money today. More to come, and plenty of questions I'm sure.
Thanks for the well wishes. I'll post details soon. I just wired the payment and didn't want to disclose too much until the deal was done. There's some stories out there... It's a project and it won't come home for another month at least, but that gives me a chance to upgrade the garage. While I was at it, I picked up a 308 that was sitting next to it. Figured I had some leverage on price. Anyone know how to build subterranean parking?
Currently black BTW. Ferrari BH is starting the research process with Marinello. I'm pretty sure it was Azzurro Metallizzato with black interior originally.
246GT Euro 308 GTS Both cars I wanted when I was a kid. The Dino I was sure I missed out on, but started looking a few months ago for some reason. The 308 I never thought would come back; that was sort of an impulse buy. The 308 is probably the better investment at this point, time will tell.
Congrats! I also just picked up a Dino a few days ago! 246 GTS SN 4004 that was at Automotive Restorations in Connecticut.
Congratulations! It looks like *04860* was in the Russo and Steele Newport Beach 2015 Auction Catalog Newport Beach 2015 Auction Catalog It says it was with the same California owner since 1982. I couldn't find any auction result on it. In the Dino Register it states "CLAIMED TO BE-72 PARIS SHOW CAR". It would be interesting to see if there's any photos or info on that. I wonder what the original color combo was. Looks like it has late series front bumper/grille. Maybe Matthias will chime in as to when these came. Also, probably as you know, it has a custom dashboard that looks like it has the original speedo, tach and clock and Alfa (?) center gauges? Looks like it was imported and has gone through DOT in period by looking at the side markers and seat belts. If you contact DOT they will tell you if and when it was done. Also, for a small fee they will issue you an official legal document which will help you trace it's history. Have you driven the car and allowed it to go through a couple of heat cycles to see how it behaves? Again, congratulations! Freeman
Paris show car? I'm dubious, I read that too. It came through Trend Imports in 1982: I'm guessing grey market from Europe. Trend was notorious for grey market paperwork for cars and were eventually shut down for faking smog certificates. The dash and the whole interior is a wreck, I'm hoping the original dash is under the mess. It looks like things were just screwed in and the gauges and switches moved. I hate to think of what they did to the harness to achieve it. I'm pretty sure the original color was 106 A32 Azzurro Metallizzato with black interior. Ferrari will sort that out. It runs pretty (relative) well. No ticks, carbs need to be rebuilt, coolant leaks, oil leaks. I'm planning on an engine rebuild and figured it was better not to drive it at this point. The suspension is shot. Some rust. Terrible respray. I'm surprised Russo and Steele had it and described it that way. It was a DNS there based on the results I found. Thanks for the tip on DOT, that's next. I wanted a project.
If you need contact info for DOT, please PM me. Freeman P.S. I don't know if you've seen but *04860* is currently on Ebay but for some reason is using VIN 05111: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ferrari-Other-246GT-Coupe-/221869582292?forcerrptr=true&hash=item33a87527d4&item=221869582292
Blu Chiaro Metallizzato 106-A-38 - nero 161 no Pozzi delivery, very unlikely to be a Paris Show car....
Thanks, Once I get the reg, it's going to Ferrari who will research it further. I also ordered the Dino Compendium so I'll have plenty to read up on. I couldn't tell if it was azzuro or blu chiaro under the black. Wishful thinking on the azzuro. Either way it's going back to original. Should be nice looking.
Dino Compendium has arrived, thanks Matthias. Car goes to storage until it's (and my) home is done. 246 and younger brother as they are now. Changes to come. Damn, I need more parking. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
That looks like Oro Chiaro for the 308. Do you know the original color that was ordered from the factory? Congrats on the new arrivals!
I couldn't find any evidence of a color change on the 308 so I think it was originally Oro Chiaro. I sent the reg. to Ferrari to research it.
A nice change from the usual red/tan out there. Greg Garrison called Oro Chiaro the Ferrari 'show car' color. I like that color...
