Hi guys. I want to share with you the restoration of the jack of my Dino. I hope it helps if you are going to work around it. My Dino is the 01944 and 'she' is with me since 1972.
Well , a few years after I bought it, for reasons that I don't remember, the jack dropped down while the car was launched at 120 Km/h. The result is shown in the first picture.
I let you imagine the noise I heard before stopping the car and the conditions of the plastic bag of the jack. I was compellled to buy a new rhomboidal one because the welding of the central gear was broken so that the crank was spinning without producing effects

Let me organize the remaining images and I'll show you the end of the story. :)
    See you tomorrow

P.S. The accident happened about 40 years ago, but this restoration is a matter of these days after I saw the requests for a jack on ebay and someone asked me about 3k Euro for a specimen.

Thanks for this, Flavio. (I am still curious how the jack flew from the car. For a second there, I thought you had an accident.)

No Andres :) , it was not an accident , it was probably the little hook of the rubber strip that was not firmly fixed in its seat. I don't remember.

(I had an accident , but in 1980; moreover this is another story that I will explain when I'll present my car , if you want)

    Well, it continues.
The most difficult thing for me was to rebuild the border of the aluminium head of the jack. I learned to weld with the electric arc or the oxyacetylene torch , but I'm not able to do it on aluminium. So I found a guy that probably is not the best , but that was able to put drops on drops of aluminium up to fill the defect of the head. I made an insert in copper to avoid that the metal went inside the head.
Patiently, but in a short time because aluminum is soft, I gave to the head its original shape, working with files and little round burs.

Then I was lucky to find Tony that has a first class reproduction of the original Battaini cap (thank you Matthias for your help). This repro is absolutely perfect and I thank a lot Tony for this.
At last, when I installed it on the head , the cap popped (is it the correct term in English?) with an encouraging noise.

And this is the final product .
It has the uppercase B on the black knob , as usual.

This is the first piece restored of the full tools set of the car.

The original one seemed to me to be poor in comparison with the ones of the other
Ferrari models and so in 1979, with the help of a dear 80 years old friend, named Piero, expert in leather, I made a wooden box covered in leather with hinges, clasps and the ordinance prancing horse. I attach a scan of the original pictures of the box.

Very proud of this , unfortunately I did not pay attention to the end of the original tools over the years. And so I missed almost all the other units of the tools pouch and the pouch itself.
The jack is only the beginning of the restoration project.

Maybe I will ask your help to find the other units.

If I imagined the value of that original pouch years after....

What color and brand of paint did you use to paint your jack?

My jack is missing the black plastic cap on the jack. Where can I get one? Also, my jack fits on the right side of my car, but does not fit on the left side. It seems the steel tubing on the left side is a smaller diameter.

You may need a 206 jack (smaller diameter) for one side and a 246 (which you have) for the other.

Trade the 246 jack for a 206, then make a sleeve for the larger side.

Or, as that may be a more expensive proposition, just replace the large for small tube, then a portable sleeve.

    Regards, Alberto

I have 2 extra jacks I love to get to cars that need them.

Last item my car needs is a leather wallet.

    Trades anyone?

    Good day,
I am new to this forum. I have an early 70s Alfa Romeo and the jack is from Battaini. It is the bigger diametre jack, I am wondering if the cap and the bumper for the larger jack are available (diametre is roughly 54mm)
    Tgank you very much
    Oscar
