Is removal of the seal as straightforward as it appears? Distributor is out, just checking to verify there are no surprises when I remove the bolt from the end of the cam.

Yes it is as easy as it looks. Flatten the bent lock washer and remove the bolt and take off the dog drive that turns the distributor. With the bolt off you will see that the dog drive can be put in at 90 degree increments so be sure to get your alignment correct when re-assembling (really you can only get it wrong by 90 degrees so a simple marker mark is all you need). With the dog drive out you can now remove the triangular shaped housing that holds the distributor seal and buts up to the cam cover / head. This housing comes right out so replacement of the seal is done on a table. Simple stuff.
