Ad says chassis #05004, factory chairs and flares. Also says has original Campy wheels.

    Here's the ad:

"1973 Ferrari 246GTS Dino: Factory Chairs and Flares

This 1973 Ferrari 246GTS Dino is a rare and extremely desirable factory chairs and flares car. Less then 100 factory chairs and flares Dinos were ever produced and this particular example originally left the factory finished in a very attractive color combination Rosso Cordoba with black interior. Accompanied by it's correct Campagnolo wheels and just out of three decade long ownership, this 246GTS is partially taken apart but comes very complete with all glass included. The motor also starts. It's bumpers and grille are missing from the car. This may be one of the first factory chairs and flares Dinos to have left the factory and is an excellent original car to restore.

    Chassis No: 05004

    Price: $289,500 "

Question for the Dino experts here -
The 246 is one of my dream cars, but right now the only Dino I can afford is the 308 GT/4.

However, I'm wondering - is resotration of something like this worth it unless you own a repair shop? With complete cars in good to concours condition selling between $395k - $450k (as of today's ads), is this a deal? Or even a fair price? Can this car be brought back to life for $100k? I just spent $25k restoring the engine and a few other things on a Mondial. I'm thinking that paint, interior, bumpers, tires, and of course engine work will be way more than this car is worth by the time it's done, no?

No, but I am certain the car is 99.5% complete, except a few easy to find tidbits ;)

    Rust?

    Regards, Alberto

PS. dinoregister.com , confirms the "full Daytona package"

Maybe. I take that back, probably. But, this is a special car. Chairs and flairs, factory A/C, US spec model. Makes it pretty limited edition stuff.

but some of their other Dinos, in comparison, do seem like a better bet.

Overpriced for a restoration project. Even with flares.

This car did sell for asking. We made an offer just a little less than asking and didn't get it.

I stand corrected though incredibly strong money for a car needing a restoration in a softening market. BTW according to Matthias Bartz the first flares car is s/n 5454 produced well after this car.

Are you serious? I was posting info that was a bit more than some propaganda.

I am not saying I endorse this, but it is interesting.

Let's see where this goes. 😉

    almost correct...
#05454 (Euro-model) was the first flares Dino, production date 15th of Dec. 1972
    #05004 (US-model) production date 4th of April 1973! (3 1/2 month later)

So was the car at Gullwing Motors NOT an original Flares car?

so it sounds like this was the first US chairs and flares car ... maybe the price was not that bad.. I assume the restoration would be around 200K or so..??

I don’t follow the 246 market that closely, but that seems like a pretty strong ask; almost twice the current market? Who did the restoration?
