Racked up almost 1000 km on the Dino in the last 10 days with lots of interesting adventures along the way. Today our borrowed garage space some 200 km from home is being shared with the only yellow F1 car Ayrton Senna raced; the 1987 Lotus 99T

Kudos to you for driving a perfectly restored car!

Too many of those sit in museums or collections and never see the sky

Geeze Rob. You're killing me. I saw Senna drive that car live in Mexico City, my first in person F1 race. I'd kill to just sit in the thing. Add your Dino and it's just a bit over the top, don't you agree?

    Very nice garage!
These are some if the prettiest F1 machines.
I spectated at the '87 Adelaide GP, he won in this car but was disqualified sadly...
I probably have photos on negatives in a box somewhere

    So Rob, do you fit?

Lovely photo. In relation to our thread on whether to sell one's Dino because it isn't driven much anymore, I wonder how often that lovely Lotus is driven. Probably not much, but if I owned it, had the space, and could afford to keep it, would I? Yes! Without a second thought.

Interestingly this car was last raced at the German GP in 1987 by Senna and then tested by him in Austria. Since then it has not been started and still has its original engine. It is a shame because it really should be driven but on the other hand it is extremely cool that this car last ran under its own power with Senna behind the wheel.

Cool pic. Amazing to realize that an F1 car with that kind of history is sitting in someone's garage. :)

With the weekend finished I now have some more photos and stories to share. These pics were taken at the Cobble Beach Concours held in Ontario Canada. Lauded as the Pebble Beach of the north this event is in its 4th year and the venue and organization was just out of this world. Much like the big shows Ameila Island and Pebble Beach it is very much a Pre-War affair with cars of that vintage destined to take home the big hardware and the field was deep with some truly amazing machines. Outside of the heavy hitters are other classes and the organizers called us a couple of months back and asked us if we would bring the Dino. At first we were reluctant because we had put the car show scene behind us but upon re-consideration we very much respected what they are trying to establish and decided to show.

Despite the caliber of the cars on display we were not going to trailer the car or give it a crazy pre-concours prep. After close to 700km driving in the previous week we loaded it up with our stuff and made the 200km drive to the venue. Because most cars were living in a car hauler, once there one of the organizers offered us a garage space in their son's garage. To our shock the other space was being occupied by the Senna Lotus F1 car so we were over the moon. This was the first model car I built and to have it in the same garage was just beyond belief and we admired it with great admiration.

That evening is when luck really intervened. At the pre-event dinner I was sat next to the owner of the Lotus. He had recently acquired the car and was befuddled as to how to best get it from the garage to the show field. The engine was not operable so it would need to be towed. Having personally towed racing cars for hundreds of kilometers over the years he asked me if I would drive it down the field for him. Of course this is not how you picture driving a GP car for the first time but then again how often do you get to sit in and steer a car that was last driven by Senna!

The next morning we met early and fortunately my good friend and wonderful photographer Lucas Scarfone was there to capture the moment. Here are some pics of the move in...

Not a T4 but in Toronto is the Villeneuve 312T3 that he won the Canadian GP with. It's been here for a few years. There is some crazy stuff hiding away in and around my area.

    This is super cool.

I guess I am more amazed you were able to get an F1 car to clear the humps and bumps of typical residential areas.

I suppose the story would not be complete without a quick note of how the concours went. As mentioned earlier The Cobble Beach Concours is a pretty fancy affair and is very much a Pebble Beach type show. The setting is on a beautiful golf course overlooking Georgian Bay (not quite the Pacific Ocean but it is all the water we have) and the weather was as perfect as you will ever see.

Our Dino was entered in Class 8 for European Sports Cars to 1973 and our class featured a number of really nice cars including a Daytona, 330 America, Austin Healey, Jaguar E-Type, Mercedes 190SL , and Maserati Mistral. The judges were not marque specialists but very experienced and familiar with most of the cars. They judged very thoroughly and asked lots of questions.

In the end we won our class which made us eligible for the bigger prizes. Because of the nature of the show we figured that would be it and went to see the prize giving. To our surprise we were further awarded 'Outstanding Post-War' which turned out to be the biggest prize next to 'Best of Show' for which a Dino is rightfully not suited given the rarity of some of the other options. With this prize in hand (we are now starting to run out of trunk space mind you) we were asked to stay until later in the day so that the pro photographers could shoot our car along with the other two top prize winners of 'Best of Show' and 'Best Pre War'. As you will see in the photos below the Dino looked well out of place among the winners :)

At the end of the day, with the Dino all packed with our luggage, we made our way off the field and past all the transporters waiting to take the show cars away. A 200 km drive was still ahead and the Dino did not miss a beat taking us from sunset into darkness through some beautiful Ontario roads.

Of course here are some pics...
