on hemmings I am serious about this car the seller and I have tried to e-mail a bit and we are attempting to set a call I am thinking about sending someone to Italy to put their hands on it and close the deal and put the car on a boat thoughts help ? https://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/cars-for-sale/ferrari/246gts/1916854.html
I'm in contact with the seller to inspect the car the upcoming week. Car is located in Sardegna right now, what make it not easier...
Simon should - tell his tale publicly he is my hero - he literally saved me money i canceled a deposit inside the 30 minute window to cancel ...
If the car is in San Giovanni NU Sardegna, and the deal will be made through www.schneider-trans.com. Run as fast as you can. Before, in San Gimignano, now what is a Dino doing in Sardegna in the dead of winter? Is there a Dr. Emilio Donizzetti involved? If there are similarities, let me know. I have a full dossier. Regards, Alberto

OK, here is the story: I am a classic Ferrari specialist in the UK and I saw the car advertised last week. We are always looking for cars buy and I look at many ads but I can't remember where I saw the ad now but it will come back to me. I contacted the seller via email and I received a reply from a guy saying he was Andrea Becciolini and he sent me details about the car (which are exactly the same as those in the Fleming ad that Neelfryer mentioned yesterday). I did a quick check on the chassis number of the car (07692) and the Dino Register shows Becciolini as the owner from 2014 and mentions the restoration and states that the car is for sale at 277,000 euros (the price I was asked) but it also says that the car was for sale at 500,000 euros in January 2016. The seller then sent me his phone number and I called him and talked about the car which he described as perfect - "every nut and bolt was put on the car by Ferrari during restoration, no one but Ferrari have worked on the car except for fitting the tyres. If want to come and see the car we can take it to the Ferrari garage to inspect it". It sounded wonderful and the pictures back this up so I arranged to go and see the car. The seller said he 2 or 3 other people interested and I should come quickly. This was last Thursday and I was busy on Friday so he said I would be best to come Monday - the weekend was not good as everything would be closed, he said. Monday was not good for me so I flew to Pisa, Italy on Tuesday, hired a car and drove to San Gimignano, which is about 90 minutes from Pisa. On Monday night I had called him to confirm I was coming and he said fine and we agreed to meet on Wednesday morning. I arrived early Tuesday evening and called him but there was no reply. I called him a number of times that evening, sent him a couple of SMS messages and an email but received no reply, In the morning I called again and still there was no reply or he was simply ignoring my calls. I called throughout the morning. He had given me an address and went to see if I could find him or the car but the address was a small apartment building but there was no Andrea Becciolini among the people living there. All very annoying but cheap flights and hotels meant it didn't cost too much in terms of actual cash. And on the plus side I got to visit San Gimignano which is a very pretty 13th century walled town on top of hill, see some nice scenery, have some great pasta, see the leaning tower of Pisa, and save 277,000 euros Whilst I was in the airport waiting to fly back to the UK I saw Neelfryer's post on Fchat and immediately sent him a PM explaining what had happened to me. Clearly this is a scam and my guess is the seller hoping buyers will simply send him money and trust him to send them the car.
Picking up on Simon's story - here's what happened to me I made contact with him when that first ad was out there the ad was all in Italian - but I e-mailed him and he e-mailed me the same details in English he wanted me to join whatsapp - which is a phone and text app - it was free so I did I never had turned the alert function on so when he was contacting me I didn't see the messages and I just assumed he sold the car then 2 weeks later - I am searching on Hemmings for Dinos and the car pops up I was thrilled - where the other ad seemed fishy to me - here it was on Hemmings !!! So I e-mailed him again - I asked if he remembered me - he said "of course - I sent you messages and you did not respond" I checked and he had in fact sent me messages - so I told him I wanted to buy the car which was no longer 277 Euro but 230 US !!! this is where I am an idiot - I am a relatively smart guy - I ahem bought and sold many cars in my life - why should I think that a restored Euro spec 74 Dino would ever sell for 230 USD? because I wanted it to sell for 230 So he sends me amazing pictures of the restoration - Matthias looks at them and says the car pictures and numbers and stamps all look original because my first thought was the car is a well made clone but Matthias also said "this seems way to good to be true" so I call Andrea and speak with him multiple times he sends me photos of his passport and the title to the car and gives me a bank wire transfer number and all the routing info I tell him I want to make a small deposit and I want to send someone to look at the car - he says "of course - send your mechanic" I then face time with a 26 year old girl that was an Au Pair for my wife and our family - she is a great girl - and she is back at her home in Milan I tell her I want her to go and see the car and meet Andrea - I will of course pay her for this She is excited and willing to do so and I tell Andrea that Valentina will be contacting him And he says "she already has and she will be coming this weekend to see the car" mind you, it's a 4 hour trip for her to get to the car - but she is up for it So now the deposit I am the one pushing for the deposit - I want to put a lock on this deal Andrea says to me "if you give me 2300 - which is 1% of the price - I will hold the car for you for the weekend - if you give me 23000 - i will hold the car for you for a month - if your mechanic doesn't like the car I will only keep 1000 US" I say - okay - deal - I set about the business of wiring him 2300 dollars it was not an easy process - trying to sift through the numbers and Italian bank names etc all of this, by the way, is making me more confident that I am on to something good -- because I realize - It's much easier to raise your hand at an auction in Arizona than it is to pay your former Au Pair to find some mountain town in Italy So i figure it out and I press send - my wire of 2300 is en route I am excited I come here to try to badger Matthias again to make a plan to see the car my plan now was to have Valentina meet Andrea and physically see the car after she sees it - I then put a 23K deposit on the car and get Matthias to really inspect to and tell me it's not a clone BUT...when I get to FCHAT - I see I have a PM - I check it ... It's Simon ... and his message is ... Hey John, I'm sitting in an airport in Pisa - that car is a scam - I've been trying to buy it too - I flip out and get back on my bank of america website and start scrambling to cancel the wire I read some fine print that says If you are inside 30 minutes of having sent the wire - you can cancel the transfer I click a few buttons and the wore is canceled I followed up by calling B of A and checking that it was canceled they confirm that it was in fact canceled I PM Simon back - enormous thanks to him and FCHAT for saving me 2300 I also went to Hemmings and left them a message saying that AD is a scam I see that they have e-mailed me back but I haven't yet read the response the end
I know that the summation of this tale is... I'm a huge rube BUT the silver lining for all you folks is... this points out that the Dino market is pretty strong strong enough to make somewhat smart guys do incredibly dumb stuff in pursuit of a 74 Dino
I've always been cautious of buying cars from Italy... Lots of scams, I've seen it in person, especially if they're too good to be true. Caveat emptor...! Thank you Fchat, without this, you would've been in dire strife.
You should have told the guy that you were about to receive $50 million dollars from a Nigerian prince, and if he would send the car to you immediately, you would send him $500,000 for the car as soon as the money from Nigeria arrives.
i did a version of this as i told him to check his bank for the wire a few times i was also checking that the money never actually went because it had actually left my account and was being held by compliance at b of a we then had a nasty exchange where he accused me of playing a game i was thinking ... is there a chance that he has an account here? and lurks around reading posts about his scam cars????
Wrote him, said I would be by, and this is what I got: "You can find me at: Andrea Becciolini Cortennano-Montagnana 12 San Gimignano 53037 0039.333-142-9748 Please call one day ahead to verify if the car will be still for sale." Same coordinates? Regards, Alberto
OK Volkmar, thank you. Now, I asked him where is the car, as he replied where HE is located, and no mention of the car. Then I will ask for a photo of the car at the location. Let's see how it plays. Regards, Alberto
John, did he give give you an account number, and most important a FISCAL CODE. In Italy, without a fiscal code, you cannot move a dime... Regards, Alberto
Latest reply: "Hi, I have the car at a garage near by, with specialized conditions. You come to me, and we will go together." Sounds great, doesn't it? Regards, Alberto
In photo # 7, there is a Maserati emblem on the wall. If this sequence of photos is trying to portray that this Dino was restored at Ferrari, and is shown through its restoration, and even though FIAT owns everybody, I seriously doubt they would display a Maserati banner. The shop, is any Italian shop. There is also another photo with "Toyota original parts" on the background of the tire dealer. Someone has been very creative... I am giving up wasting time on this bozo, not worth the cat & mouse. Bye Dino...
I wonder if this guy is the same that I saw in Italy many years ago. I was looking at a 275GTB4 at a very reasonable price. BUT, I had to go to Switzerland, deposit the money in an account in a Swiss bank, and when the seller received notification that the money had been deposited, he would ship the car to me in the US. I got a bad feeling about this, and I would have rather missed out on the car than lose all the money. No deal.
to be honest i am nervous enough about my info exchange with this guy that i am holding back from saying too much here but i would suggest that everyone keep in mind that someone who is so cavalier about their money scam is a criminal capable of other crimes and probably has spent some time in prison for other offenses simon really saved me the 2300 but i am still uncomfortable with the exchanges i had with him at the end be very cautious
Have you visited it, too? It really is very gruesome! On a happier note, SG is famed for its ice cream, which I can say from personal experience is excellent!!
