Hi all, I have a 1971 246 GT with a replacement ammeter (not Veglia) and would like to replace it. I know there are a couple of places (Saxon parts etc) who will make one up, but I was wondering if anyone has an original they would like to sell, or knows where I could find one? My engineer has tried without luck but said the instrument guys he knows could use a fuel/temp gauge from a 308 and screenprint the correct text onto it. Anyone any experience of doing this? Thanks v much, Tim

    wrong speedometer for starters!!

not necessarily a bad regulator, poor earth or bad connections is the usual fault. However high charging even on a short journey as per the video spells big trouble for overheating wiring.

Correct about the speedo. 308 GT4 face with a 246 needle. That's the first time I've seen someone do that. TonyL is absolutely right about high charging. A bad ammeter is like a grenade with the pin pulled.

Dinoparts in Germany makes a Voltometer that is cleverly disguised to look like the original Ammeter. Purists may cry, but not as hard as when they watch their car burn.

Is it possible to safeguard the ammeter with a fusible link?

My story was that the rear lights became dim and didn't work properly - I tried to sort it out. Then I noticed it was system wide. I pulled the gauges and the nuts to the Ampere Meter were loose. Yes, that's how fires start. I though about a volt meter, but instead I sinched down the connections with lock nuts.

Add 90 degrees rubber boots to each connector on back of Ameter.
The same size used at ignition distributor sides is the good one.
When the wire is loose it goes nowehre and insulated
