This past weekend I was invited by my local Ferrari dealer to attend the Ferrari Challenge races and FXX program at our local track Mosport Park. In addition to the races there was a gathering of special and classic Ferrari cars. While most of the cars were trailered up I went for a nice road trip with the Dino. At the end of the day I parked next to a very special car and got some nice photos. The car was THE Ferrari F1 car that Gilles Villeneuve drove to victory in the 1978 Canadian Grand Prix.

In addition I did make a cool reunion. Back in 1971 when 01464 was new the mechanic on duty that did the PPI and early services was Remo Ferri that now owns Ferrari of Ontario. Below is a pic of Remo with the very car he signed off on over 45 years ago.

Lastly comes both a confession as well as a feel good story. While I was driving to Mosport I remembered that 20 years ago on this very weekend in 1997, 01464 was for sale at a local dealership. Not having 2 nickels to rub together, I dressed as nice as I could, called in advance and posed as a buyer. Somehow I managed to get a test drive and it would be the very first time I drove a Ferrari. While this was happening my brother Paul was waiting for me on a street corner downtown where I had promised to pick him up. When I arrived almost an hour late he was fuming mad but changed moods like a switch when I told him 'Paul I just drove a Dino'.

I never would have thought that 20 years later I would be driving that very car. Feeling nostalgic, that evening, I returned to the exact location of the dealership (now long gone) and re-created the test drive route. Needless to say redline was seen more times that I care to remember and the engine runs all the better for it.

Had a great weekend at Mosport with my son. This was the smallest Corse Clienti event I have done. We only had (3) FXXK's and (2) 599XX's, one EVO and my original. If you have never been there, Mosport is a roller coaster of a track. What a blast with high speed turns, blind curves that drop off the huge elevation changes and great grip where you need it. Really, if any of you have a chance to drive this track, make the trip. It is worth it. This track has such a great rhythm. I could drive it all day long. The turns are high speed and the harder you push through turns 2, 4, and 8 the better this track gets. It has fresh asphalt exactly where you need it, so the grip picks up and controls the side fantastically. I was over 1.5 lateral G's in turns 2 and 8 consistently. I never thought that my car would hold at that rate, but it did with predicable control. The back straight is also a full climb and a little bumpy and drops into a really fast turn 8. I can't describe how much fun this track is. Certainly one of my favorites.

Here is a video of my last lap with my son. What a great way to spend the weekend with him. Turn up the volume and enjoy!

Great pictures with some amazing models and stories to Rob! Your Dino looks perfect. I think that F1 car was kept in the showroom at Remo's old Ferrari repair shop before he had Maranello Ferrari dealership. The silver Ferrari Daytona prototype 11001 with the 275 GTB style nose was in Remo's shop there for some work back then. There was also a Ferrari 312PB from New York state at the shop one time from the same guy who had a 275 GTB/4. Remo was very popular for Ferrari work.

    Absolutely a super fun day.

So, the Dino that you purchased and restored was not only of the same type and color as the first Dino that you drove 20 years earlier, but it was in fact the very same car, the same serial number!
It is a small world sometimes, the world of Dinos.
A great feel good story. And that Dino is a joy to look at - every time.

YES the Dino we restored is indeed that exact same car! Agreed that the car world can be small sometimes. To further add to the story when we purchased the car the same salesman that let me drive it 20 years earlier actually brokered the deal even though he had changed jobs several times since then. Truly an ownership that was meant to be.
