I await a head to head 918 vs Performente grudge match by a third party (Motor Trend?). It's not that I donít trust Lamborghini results, but as Ronald Reagan once said: trust but verify.

I think this will be interesting as well. Not totally sure we get it. I don't know if it'd end well for the HP either.

If the old LFA N-ring edition can do a 7:14, and the Merc GT R can do a 7:10, then I see no reason why the performante can't do the 6:52 if the aero is true.

If we take the best figures for the huracan vs the average figures for the 918, the difference is around 1/2 sec @ 100mph. However, if we take the best from each, then up to 150mph, the 918 is ahead by 3secs. 1/4 trap speed is about 10mph diff.

any news on the merc P one? Can't really get too excited by the AM though. Too compromised for road use. Leaves me cold like the macca F1

I heard second hand that Mercedes had a private showing with VIP's and the reaction wasn't positive by in large.

Merc AMG will have 275 people who will buy the Project One. No doubt. It was received well enough that Mercedes stopped taking new order inquiries back in the middle of March, shortly after the private showing. There maybe people who don't like certain configurations about the car but there is no denying the tech and performance of this car. IMO it is way beyond anything on the street today.

Porsche 919 Hybrid - Technical Specs - Porsche USA
That's actually a really good point and doesn't sound very appealing.

Crazy how the Chiron gets released and this thread dies. Just wait until the mag tests to see how much it obliterates the "big three".

I'll say this though, IMHO the 918/P1/LAF were the three biggest leaps in automotive performance of all time. They were massively faster and more capable than anything before them. Veyron SS-fast in a straight line and could handle like a lotus. But ultimately I think the tech being first generation will let the cars down long term in that the next series hyper hybrids will be superior with weight and power. Nonetheless, nothing captured the minds of auto enthusiasts like these three. All are brilliant and in quite different ways. The performance is so similar it's splitting hairs. I could make an argument for why someone would own each. We got to discuss them for three years which is pretty incredible staying power nowadays. But clearly it's time to move on.

Only in a straight line, and that's not even a dead certainty up to a specific speed. Bugattis are just top speed cars, compromised in every other dimension. They are not even the best at what they do; buy a Regera or a souped up Lambo if all you want is top speed.

i almost agree with you, but it's the Veyron that was the biggest leap in automotive performance history....use your memory....1001 hp in 2005, DSG and 400kph....the 918/P1/LF barely compete
today....
the Veyron remains the greatest drivers car of all time.....

I can understand your first argument completely but I can't agree with this statement.

About a half hours worth. Amazing car, but I was always aware of how valuable the thing I was driving was. Granted if I was more wealthy perhaps I wouldn't have felt that way. That to me makes it hard to refer to it as a "drivers car". Great piece of tech. Art even. But drivers car to me is something you can sling around a track or the street and then park it somewhere without worrying about someone keying it. We all have our own definitions for this stuff I suppose though.

Joe, you always post reasonably and i always respect and mostly agree with your views, which is a huge exception to a lot of the things i read on these boards....and in this case i do too, but would simply add that once you get over the price or can forget about the price, the Veyron blows me away every time i drive it! and it is soooo misunderstood by enthusiasts.

Thanks man, I appreciate that. To be fair I wouldn't call any of the big three a drivers car either. Too expensive, too much tech, too powerful. 911 Gt3 or 458 for me.

they are the best at what they do, by far

the Regera is an unreliable joke and you can't compare aftermarket twin turbo lambos (which also suffer from many problems) to the Veyron

really looking forward to getting the chance to try the Chiron
