JDubbya's post about crossing the 100K line makes me wonder what the highest mileage 3x8 you've heard of is, that hasn't had a fully rebuilt engine... My 328 has 67K and runs fantastic. But on any other car this old, that's very low mileage. So how about those truly high mileage 3x8s out there.... Jedi
There´s a 308 for sale in the Netherlands with 156.458mls/250.333km on the clock. http://www.autoscout24.nl/Details.aspx?id=vbbebmfmhxrh
I have 145K on mine, '84 QV GTB. Little smoke on start up, 2nd gear a little balky when cold, but running pretty good and everything works!
There is a 308 GT/4 here that has over 300,000 km's on it. Original owner, now undergoing a well deserved "last nut and bolt" restoration.
My 81 GTSi has 83K miles.... I'm the 2nd owner, and I didn't put most of the miles on it. But, the original owner is a personal friend, and I know for a fact that the heads have never been off and the block has never been opened up! Absolutely no issues with the car ---- everything works, runs strong, doesn't smoke at all. If you take care of these cars, and don't abuse them, they will hold up well....
79' GTS. 3rd 0wner. 67,000 and change. original motor. does not smoke. just spits and pops a tad when cold. plugs are clean and ashy white. original tranny with no synchro issues. original paint. starting to show a few tiny bubbles in places. other then that she runs strong and drives true.
LOL! Yeah, it seems like for the past 10-15 years they've all had 28k miles and just had the 30k service done! BTW, my 1980 GTBi has 72k miles and runs great! . . . but it had a complete, photo-documented rebuild of the engine, trans, and cooling system by Michael Sheehan when it had around 49k miles in the mid-90s, and the suspension, steering, brakes, AC and electrics were done more recently, so it feels almost like a new car.
My '79 308GTS has 121,000 miles. 120K were put on by the original owner, Dr in Atlanta that traded it in 2006 for a Maserati Coupe. A co-worker bought it but moved back to Denmark and couldn't take it with him. Now it is in my garage. Heads never been off or anything. All records were included and show regular maintenance by a wealthy individual that wanted and drove the car as a daily driver. 45K miles were in the first 4 years. Belts and such all changed in 2006. I plan on giving her a tune-up and driving the pants off her.
Well since I was the inspiration to start this thread I figured I'd post mine too. My '78 308 now has 100,088 miles on the clock!!
Way to go John! Love to hear stories of the higher mileage cars, as I just got back from yet another 75 miles of glee! 67,332 and counting Jedi
I am at 127,000 miles on my 75 308 gt4, 114,000 put on by me since 1983. Original motor, synchros and clutch done around 65,000 miles. Clutch still had another 15k left but the engine was out so I figured I should replace it. These cars are meant to be driven. Once they are sorted out they are "fairly" trouble free.
It is interesting to see that it is more the actual number becoming significant, independent of it being in miles or kilometers. 100K is a mental 'obstacle'.
179,000 miles on this 1981. Now being re bodied into a 288 GTO to start a new life. Engine still runs great! This is the next project car. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi there all, my own has "only" 56kmls - and I am restoring the engine department now... A friend has a 308 QV GTS (Euro car) and reached more than 200kmls meanwhile - with his first engine (no faults) without any problems. He runs on with this car. This is so extraordinary that a wellknown German oldtimer mag has reported that some months ago with a big story... ("Motor Classic"). Regards ELR-21
Pretty hefty price for that mileage....I would assume that a complete engine rebuild looms on the horizon???
Did guides & seals only at approx 120,000, still kept the crappy OEM valves, the engine has an old hpv1 direct coil ignition system on it & my custom tensioner bearings, the rest of the engine is all original & still running great, just waiting for it to fail on its own within time. Uses approx 1 quart of oil every 1000-1500 miles or so depending on how it is driven. It has been a great car! Image Unavailable, Please Login
