I am very pleased to say that I recently purchased a 1986 328GTS. I am not pleased to say that the car was not exactly as described by the dealer. When I received the car in Pittsburgh, the car did not run smooth at all. I had the delivered to a local Ferrari specialist and I was informed that it needed a full 30K service, plus new ignition wires, A/C didn't work, the tires were dry rotted, etc... Ok, my bad for not flying out to drive the car first, but I have called the "dealer" many times over the past month and a half to discuss the problems, but they won't take my calls. Anyone have a dealings like this? I am not looking for a check to cover everything, but something would be great. The car was described as a well maintained, well serviced and ready to use.

I did have the 30K service completed, new ignition wires and new tires installed. The car runs great and is a blast to drive. Although with the snow here I may not be able to enjoy the car for a couple more months.

Any advice would be great. Yes.... I do know that I should have had the car checked out first, but the dealer seemed to be reputable.

Caveat emptor -- you're probably SOL, especially if the sales agreement says "As is".

Name names, and see if there's any feedback.

In the meantime, post pics of your new toy, and welcome to Fchat!

When I was purchasing the car I spoke to Rocky Santiago and Nathan York.
I have a record of 14 phone calls with no call back.

I will post pictures this evening.

Glad to be here. I have owned a couple F cars in the early 2000's, but that was before kids and the downturn in the RE market. This one sure means more to me than the other ones did.

Yeah, what he said. If they clearly misrepresented the car, you may have recourse under state consumer protection laws, but most likely not. Even if you didn't go out there to see it, having a pre-purchase inspections done by an independent shop would have given you information on the true status of the car. Alternatively, had you found FerrariChat earlier, you might have been able to get a local member to go check it out for you.

Caveat emptor! Words to remember. Chalk it up to experience. Sounds like you've got a good local mechanic, and now a great running car. Do post some pics and fill out your profile. Welcome to the club!!!!!

    Congrats on the 328!

Any dealership with "Exotic", "Luxury", "Euro" or "Performance" is always filled with liars and charlatans. ALWAYS.

You're not the first and you won't be the last- ALL cars look great in jpgs...

Get the car up to snuff and drive the hell out of it!

SWEET!!!! Nice looking car there! Love it in silver, it looks fabulous. If the rest of the car looks as good as the outside, and it's running great now, you've got a winner, for sure! Enjoy!!

That's a good year....truthfully those items are pretty common on the 'deferred maintnenace" list...

Be glad after you sorted it nothing SERIOUS was wrong!

Was reading the thread in the NW Section where a guy purchased a 512M at auction and killed himself and his date instantly in collision not realizing the date codes on the OEM tires were bad....

Sorry to hear of your problems. It is unfortunate that you did not join this forum prior to buying your 328 as every chatter would have told you Never buy a Ferrari without an extensive PPI. I know the horse has bolted but please next time take a bit more time and at least ask one to the local chatters to eyeball the car for you first and then do a full PPi. I think you are lucky that all it needs is the 30k service which no doubt you would have completed regardless. It looks like a lovely car congratulations.

I kinda feel bad as well. Joining this forum would have given you access to a number of us who live here in OK. Certainly one of us could have gone and at least given the car a once over. I have lived here for two years and have never heard of that dealer, and I have looked for exotic dealer places in the area. Did that place do your major as well??

Rocky's been in the exotic/Ferrari/Lambo business for many years-mostly the older cars as I remember. I believe he advertises in Hemmings quite a bit but I don't know anything about his reputation except for this thread.

Pretty sure that car was on their lot a long time, seems like two years plus ago I recall seeing it. Unlikely they had two silver ones over that short span. Might explain the tires. Did theynclaim to have recently had the major done? Your were probably in better shape having it done yourself anyway.

Silvers a great color, looks just like mine except for the wheels of course, enjoy!

That was all over the news here. Or south of here, toward Jedi's. It wasn't a collision, seems a tire just blew in a minor curve. And they tell me I have old tires...

    Love it in silver.

Welcome to F-Chat and congratulations on your wonderfull silver 328!

I was wondering: did you get any service history with the car? Did you ask for it before purchase? Was the 30K service due anyway?

And further: did you pay top dollar (expecting it wouldn't need a service) or are you still above water including the performed service by your local Ferrari specialist? If the latter, I wouldn't fret about it too much and enjoy the car, especially now that it seems sorted anyway.

    Best, Peter

An "as-is" statement or descriptor made by the salesperson doesn't invalidate any specific representation made to the customer such as "well maintained" or "fully serviced" or even something as generic as "ready to go." These are representations by the dealer for which liability attaches. The tough part is usually proving that these statements were made in the first place, but if you have that in writing (perhaps in an online posting) then you're most of the way there. Again, an earlier or later "as-is" statement made by the dealer doesn't remove their liability to the customer upon these representations.

If the dealer is not taking your calls they're simply just telling you to f-off. You'll need to get their attention with a demand letter from an attorney or with a call from the consumer affairs division of your attorney general's office.

    Good luck!

Post VIN - I think this car has been discussed here before ( calling Big Tex). You might could prove the salesman knew the car hide issues and misrepresented it.

I would like to thank everyone for their .02 on my issue. I really wish that I would have joined Fchat before I purchased the car. But live and learn.

The car was serviced here (Pittsburgh) by Guiseppe (forgot his last name). He is great and currently has an un-advertised shop working out of a buddy of mines personal garage. Mind you the garage has an F-40, 288 GTO, Daytona Coupe, Daytona spider, and a few other cars. The car runs great now. It is the snow that is not so great.

As far as the paperwork on the car is concerned. I did not get that info until after the car was delivered. I was just told that it was well serviced. And it was... Until 2003.

I thought long and hard before posting this on Ferrari Chat. In sales, your reputation means a lot. I wanted to make sure that I gave the salespeople ample opportunity to call me back. After several calls again this week, enough was enough.

Here is the VIN # on the car ZFFXA20A6G0062773

I am not sure if I bought it right or not. How much is a good price?

57,000 miles - it needed tires and a 30K service. Paint is good, but not perfie

    What are your thoughts?

Happy to know about this board and to know there are people out there to help out.

Believe it or not, once the mileage is over 35k, the price drops like a rock. Factor in about 5k to 7k for a service, your probably looking like high 20s to low 30s. The dealer prob advertised for 35k and you go down from there.
