The speedo sensor of the 328 is broken. I can get no spare or for an insane price on ebay. Are there options to repair the sensor? I read on this great forum that Adrian in Berlin has an alternitif does it work?
You may be able to find the Maserati part 393650106 for a better price. I believe it is the same thing.
The same sensor carried different connectors with different part numbers for different applications. Look for a sensor, not a part number.
Suggest you search "speed sensor" for extensive recent discussions (pictures, diagrams, testing, lessons learned, etc.) that started last October. Thanks to Adrian, there is a re-engineered board and we either use the old housing or make a new housing. We made a couple for our own use but paused due to a lack of interest. Right now I have our working prototype and one new board and a new housing. Perhaps Adrian has more boards and I think he supplied enough information that you can make your own board.
I hope the boards or a complete sensors in the future go in production. Has to a market for those things.
Sorry did mean to leave the impression that no boards or sensors would be produced! We solved it, well actually Adrian solved the bigger board issue, but after making what we needed we did not have any requests for more. We did not do this to sell or make money but rather to share the solution with the 308/328 community.
Well let me be one to request one. I was expecting an announcement more along the "EUREKA! We have solved it" vein but this will do.
Frans, we have a design which can be produced but want to do some more testing. If you like to participate in the testing you could send me your broken speedo sensor and i'll convert it to the new board for free. Best, Adrian
P.s. forgot to mention the sensor repair thread, see page four for the later style sensor diagram: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/308-328/416720-308-early-speedo-drive-sensor-repair.html
Hello Adrian This is an offer I can 't refuse, and I will gladly participare in the testing. The sensor is already taken apart, so it will be easy to install the new board. I just have put the sensor back in the car for this weekend and I will be glad to send it to you after this weekend. Already thanks Frans Frans
Adrian The other thread about the sensor is very impressive. I hope it works, the sensor goes tommorow by post. Thanks Frans
Frans rebuilt speedo sensor, thanks for participating in the test program Image Unavailable, Please Login
I was likewise following the thread and it kind of died. I need one too. Hey Rich, you have a spare laying around? My wife will be there next month and we've already established that you're close!
To all: that thread kind of died because we did not get any interest. Please let us (Adrian or me or both) know if you have a need so we will know if we should make up some speed sensors. Jim: do you have your original body? If so then maybe we could swap it for my old one with a new board. Why don't u PM when u know dates since we usually go to beach house weekends. I have a lift and the slotted socket so can switch out in 5 minutes. If ur car is not here just bring me your old speed sensor.
another thought, the picture above does NOT show the brass/copper sealing washer that also spaces the body correctly as well as seals to the case. I do not know what happens if this washer is left out.
Frans sent me the sensor body without the washer so it ended up like that on the photo. If you try to reinstall it without the washer, it will most probably collide with the gear wheel.
Will the new board also work on a 308GT4? The picture of the repaired sensor looks different than the one on my car, and I think the one I have is now dead. So I'm in for one too.
The replacement is a "type" 2 sensor for fuel injected cars, the GT4 uses the previous "type 1" speedo sensor, here is a thread about the repair: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/308-328/416720-308-early-speedo-drive-sensor-repair.html
Hello Adrian you did an amazing job, the sensor looks great and I installed it yesterday with the washer. Today the weather in the Netherlands was very bad so I will test the sensor next weekend if the weather is fine. Frans
