Unfortunately not on "hey that's nice & let me have a look" distance for me.. So I'm looking forward to hear how the "atmosphere" was during the auctions. These look like cars that can give a good insight in where the market is right now ?!

The mileage on the 84 isn't correct. A battery tender screwed it up.

it'll be fun going to the auctions but with 5 auctions it's a balancing act to get to them all at the right time!

I'll be posting some pictures once I get back!

No. That would likely be the number of US cars. 259 total in 84. 201 total in 85. in 85, 29 were US cars, of which I have one which, from the pictures, is in better condition that the one at Bonhams. The Bonhams add says recent restoration. Maybe, but not to very high standards. I'll be interested in seeing what it goes for.

Bonhams only knows what the owner tells them.

Like the odometer/battery tender disaster

It is interesting that a couple of years ago no 308 was considered to be of sufficient value to merit attention from the major auction houses. They got no respect.

When I was looking for my car, sales were pretty scarce: now it seems they are for sale all over the place. I guess there are a lot of owners with a "price point" which has now been exceeded. A 308 sale makes for a good down payment for a condo on the beach.

It's winter time right now, if you're a seller isn't winter a bad time to sell?

I will tell you what is interesting, I have three representatives from the top end auction houses coming to check out my car this weekend. They heard I may be interested in selling. I am looking forward to hearing what they think it would sell for. I will let you know what they have to say.

Didn't the battery tender miles car get discussed here a few months back and was a no-sale at some other auction??

I know my mileage isn't correct because the left rear speaker wire came out of the amp a few years back. It's fixed now.

See the official 308 GTB/GTS Market Thread above, starting at post #1612 for the battery tender/odometer discussion.

$60k for a 1980 GTSi with over 40k miles that is gold doesn't seem like a soft price to me.

The 84' GTB looks nice but doesn't look perfect by any means, and it's a U.S. car, not a Euro. Plus the battery tender mileage issue. A true straight Euro with history would probably go for more. I think this one closed at $77K which is still a good price.

No need for excuses. The 308 market has softened.

Not according to the experts. Expect to pay premium for a no stories low mileage car.

Prices are about expected. I have not seen any exceptional cars just drivers. So a driver GTSi with off color and dark brown interior at over $60k is soft? This is not a $100k car right now. The 308's are doing well and the nice ones bring the $$$. The Gooding glass car is best I have seen here so far. The rest like I said drivers.

    Agree.

Probably was due to take a breath. (Especially when the "experts" start in about inexorable price rises...)

I was referring to the fact that they both went well below the low estimate. It has been the trend at all the auctions. On average I'm seeing about a 10-15% slide against all low estimates. Only a handful have hit estimates and even less have exceeded. Definitely a butts market, even some of the 911 market is cooling.

There are too many steel 308s and 911s for sale.
