engine of my red 208 GTB turbo 46823 is finally out of the car... I had to wait almost one year! This is an average (bad) engine, with 129000 km (the average mileage such cars really have, this one wasn't rolled back, two liters of oil every 500 km, compresion ratio: 3...) not an almost good one like the silver 208 GTB turbo was: this one will need 25+ K euro of work just in the engine (will be all new, from the crankshaft to the valves). Let's see: this is how it looks just removed from the car, today. Please impress in your mid how a 129000 km engine looks (please note that the airbox was already repainted 15 years and 3000 km ago): now you can realize that many have MUCH more than that mileage... ciao Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Alberto, You are stupid ! Just DAYS after finishing the silver GTB, You are starting the next projekt. Best wishes Markus
The silver one is my wife property, this red one is my property. My wife just loves cars that can give her money and always wants to sell it. I love cars without considering money: This red 208 turbo is the model and in the color combo I dreamed when I was a boy (red cream red) and with the original Modena black plate there was when I was a boy in my area. So for me it's like to come back in the past and buy a brand new red cream red 208 GTB turbo. It won't be for sale, trust me. This one was already restored in the body by the former owner, but he didn't open the engine. This car had just two former owners and the first one did 55000 km in the first two years of life as it was his everyday car. I inspected this car on request of fchatter Blaine Bell, that skipped after knowing the car real mileage and the fully gone engine issue, despite the car fantastic body restore (really excellent). It will be very expensive at the end of the restore, but who cares: Dreams are priceless. I posted the engine picture to show you all how a129000 km engine looks, as very often you are told the car has 29000 km while it has 129000 or even 229000 (the odo did two turns). Ciao
Alberto, you have the disease in a very bad way - I'm glad to say! Hope the restoration goes smoothly.
As usual looking forward to seeing the progression of the rebirth of a magnificent engine! And as usual jealous as hell ;-)!
looks to be a very light engine service... Engine number is 00288 ciao Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
That engine, for a turbocharged Ferrari, with that very special motor number, deserves the best rebuild in the world !!
thanks, Emile. This below is the garbage box: the engine still had OEM sodium valves and OEM pistons. It's the first time it has been opened. ciao Image Unavailable, Please Login
the slivers will be machined up to 67 mm for the new CPS pistons. ciao Image Unavailable, Please Login
I think very soon I will ask here for a GOFUND ME support to restore and mantain all that garbage... ciao
Since your car is turbocharged, has engine number 288, I thought this film could inspire you Alberto for some spirited driving when the rebuild is finished !! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKm-wcxkl5U
Thanks, Emile: I don't want to offend anyone, I consider the 288 GTO a great and superb car, but I don't like it too much: It has a "Koenig" shape that destroys the 308 pure and elegant Italian shape. I really prefer the 208 turbo if we are talking of turbocharged cars or the 308/328 if we are talking of NA cars. I really consider the 208/308/328 the best looking Ferrari since 1970. I would like to have a 288, but just to sell it and put big money on my pockets: the 208 turbo is nicer, in my own opinion. And the same with the F40. ciao Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
The rear bumper is cool. Is that normal for the turbos? I'd love to see a photo of the motor with the turbo charger installed, just to see where things bolt up. If you need a new turbo exhaust manifold. I have probably one of the last new ones in existence available. If you are keeping it forever, have you considered making it a 3 liter turbo motor? That would scream. I know first hand. Aaron
