Hello folks, I have a question regarding the proper function or position of the fresh air blower switch position on my 308 GT4. When the switch is in the straight ahead position, the fan motors are operational and the indicator light is on. When the switch is in the lowered position, the fans are off and the light is off. This seems backwards to me. Is the incorrect switch installed, or is the function correct. Any feedback will be appreciated. I attached pictures to clarify. I suppose there are two possibles: 1) that's how it is supposed to be 2) maybe the switch was replaced at one time with the wrong switch. Or the switch has both contacts and was wired wrong.
The manual only says to turn it on. Checked the switch, it only has two wires. Reversing the wires has no effect. Before I order a new switch, I wanted to hear from someone who has a 308. Marc Marc
Why don't you loosen the jamb nut, and spin it 180 degrees??? If the wires bind, rotating right, try taking it to the left.....
Folks, Rotatingthe switch won't solve the problem. It just reverses it. Can someone who has a 308 tell me how thiers works. Marc
That's got to be be the wrong switch hasn't ? No one would design it to work like that. Maybe pull that switch and one of the others to compare Lucas part numbers. If you need replacement Lucas switches, U.K. eBay is a pretty good source.
The schematic in your OM shows that the blower switch should have 4 male spades with three wires connected and one male spade not connected. Try moving the yellow (G) wire to the presently unused male spade (the way the switch internals work, if the yellow wire was/is put on the wrong spade, it will reverse the logic as you now have).
I don't get your comment. If you turn the whole thing upside down like the two guy mentioned then on will be up and off will be down like you think it should be. Edit: Ok never mind, now I see. It's because the "home" position is in the center. Not like a light switch which flipping it 180 would change the operation. Yours would now flip up above center for off and then back to center for on.
The switch is correct, like mine. But the wiring is obviously not correct. Try what Steve posted above, might run.
I was going to suggest has Steve said. These switch usually have a NO and NC fonction in the same position you only choose the one you need by connecting to the proper spade. Vice and versa.
Thanks folks, It looks like the switch is incorrect. This car sat in a restoration shop for a few years, and when I first saw the car the switch was missing, most likely used to repair another car. It is obvious now based on all the info received in this post that the wrong switch was installed as a replacement. Will order a new one. Marc
No, the information in this thread indicates that you have the right switch but the wires were just connected to the wrong terminals when reassembled. Or are you saying that you have physically inspected the actual switch, and it does not have 4 male spade terminals? The FAN and FOG switches should be identical -- compare them to confirm/deny if you have the correct FAN switch.
I think this is the switch you need if your switch has only two spades.; https://www.ebay.com/itm/201579454439 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
My GT4 is the same. Down is on and up (or straight out is off). My guess is they mixed it with one of the other switches in your car.
