Cool project kickoff and thanks for sharing the process. One question why did you blast everything but the edges?
Wade I also have a Avorio Safari non boxer currently argento. How are u going to get the Avorio Safari paint ? Mike
Stillm. Generally the edges are sanded by hand. Because the openings are taped off as to not blow media inside the car.
Thx Wade. Is this your Car? Chassis number? Build number? I am nuts for the Avorio cars. I started a list somewhere in my office of Avorio cars . Boxser and solid. Mine is a solid. I have only found 5 total including mine. Mysterious to me. Thrill of the chase ya know? Btw mine #09966 build # 43
Wade I believe this is your shop doing the restoration. You are a pro. But just a bit of info. Removing the front window chrome is not a difficult job. I have mine off right now and only took about an hour. There are no clips holding the trim in place only adhesive. if you use a flexible long blade utility knife {the type where you can snap the blades off} cut the silicone at the pillar side and top and bottom outer edges a few times, then bend the blade with pressure from your hand to gently cut the silicone on the glass surface side. you will find that in some spots it will go in and other spots it wont. Then take a wood shim to relieve some pressure between the glass and the trim. Then continue the process with adding wood shims and cutting with the blade. You will get to a point where you can actually cut the silicone that is on the underside of the trim and glass with the shim by placing the shim flat against the glass and use the thin part of the shim to go under the trim and scrape the silicone. You can tape the glass if you like also. as to not scratch it.. You will not cause damage to the glass or trim with the shim. Then with a little slight flexing it all comes off effortlessly.
Uh, oh! I see a 6 inch square of filler on rust at the bottom of the passenger and driver door. You did not spend the extra $3K to have the doors removed, panels removed from doors and then rust properly cut out and new metal welded in. You have made your beautiful Ferrari completely worthless!!!!!! Just kidding, of course! But you will find people here who might have that opinion...LOL!
P.S. You didn't remove the windshield to paint the car? Your car has now been officially deemed ready for the junkyard! LOL
all of the rust will be cut out and replaced with new panels, the door are minor compared to the lower rear, there will be lots of metal work on this car, Wade
working on that, I have a family member who works for Dupont Chemical and he said he could mix the original formula but, Im leaning more toward a more modern high end single stage maybe Spies Hecker. I'll let you know once I have decided. Wade
Ok appreciated. I have a quart of spies hecker from my first paint job. I believe it's single but I don't know where I got it from. Btw. There is a fchat member Italianone who is in Michigan redoing a Avorio car as well.
