I ordered all the insulation pieces that go on the inside of the front hood/lid on a 308 QV. Does anyone have any pictures with all the pieces installed correctly? The pieces in question are the numbers 7,27,9,24 on the diagram below.

I know where the pieces 9 and 24 are going. I'm not sure about the rest.

I think 7 blanks off the side of the radiator, and 27 goes underneath, although I've never seen one. 24 is glued to the bonnet above the radiator to seal it, and 9 is glued to the bonnet above the edge of the front compartment to keep hot air out of it - you can see how it follows its shape

I have "researched" these foam pieces for my car's restoration and can vouch that your photos are correct.

The two #7 pieces do indeed go on the two sides of the radiator. (To install them, compress them between to pieces of thin cardboard, insert them into position, and then pull out the cardboard) (good luck).

I recently purchased items #9 and #24 from TRutlands. #24 was a nicely made specialty piece, but #9 was a poorly made strip. They kindly agreed to refund it and I, instead, cut appropriate sized foam from a $3 piece of air conditioned insulation I bought at Home Depot. I used the same foam for #7.

I noticed a substantial reduction in cabin heat after correctly replacing these foam pieces. I was surprised.

they are just pieces of foam that avoid the hot air from the water radiator can reach the passenger cabin. So they seal the venting grills zone from the spare tire housing, no more. They are useless for engine cooling.

Yep, should be 2 #7's, one on either side of the rad and #27 goes under it.

Does the #27 go on top of the radiator?

No, but #24 does. 27 goes under the rad.

Yes, under the radiator, the sides, and the top one seals to the radiator lid.

Early cars had a seal to the top of the spare tire bucket.
They also had an odd shaped "corner piece" at the ends to the top of the radiator.

Sorry I did not answer when you first posted, crazy busy!!
Thanks to Albert LP for the picture.

Later cars were a bit different.
Mine were so simple I cut them with a bread knife from sheet stock.

    Hello together,

I would like to add my piece above the spare tire compartment, which is missing. Can someone give me the cross section dimensions? (width, height)

Best Regards and thanks in advance

I disagree. Any air that could cool the passenger cabin but is otherwise forced to cool the car is good for the engine, even if 15ft aft :):).

Thanks for these pics. I'm going to buy these two gaskets. Both are missing from my QV. I see some slight residue from where they used to be under the hood. I can understand how these aid with the cooling by keeping the outside air going where it is supposed to be going.

We still get a bunch of hot air passing under the spare tire well.

Installed my under hood gaskets. Ridiculously expensive for foam. But now it looks more complete.

I was wondering about this myself as in the few times I have been able to drive my 308 it got hot in the cabin. I also recovered some perished insulation from below the spare wheel well. Great thread!

    Hello,

would like to add my missing piece above the spare tire bucket. Since I have a company nearby, which does these things cheap by water jet cutting. Would you mind telling me the approx. thickness of the foam?

Best Regards and thanks in advance
    Martin
