Hello All, Im new and working to revive a long dead 308 gtsi. Valve failure destroyed one head, 2 pistons and 4 cylinder liners, well 2 really bad and 2 i don't like. i have a replacement head and pistons but am in need of liners. Any one out there in FC land have any liners ? I'm looking. Many Thanks
I have s used set of QV liners with 100k miles on them. These are in fair usable shape but not sure if they would work in your engine or not. These were coated aluminum liners used for a short time by Ferrari.
Thanks for the offer Robert but almost have enough of the iron ones now thanks to a generous fchat member.
I have a full set that came out of an 82 Mondial but they have been sitting for so long they have surface rust in the bores ... not sure if that can be honed out. They were OK when we pulled them out, Dennis McCann just wanted to sell me a new set.
David at Ferrari Service of Bedford in NH has some new nikasil liners I believe. He put a new set in my QV a number of years ago and I'm pretty sure he still has some more.
But are they really useable? Has anybody any expierence with those liners? Need also a full set for my 308. This stands now since 2002... Or are any other producers known? Wanna have my carb car on the road again...!
The 81/2 cars had oil consumption issues until Ferrari went to Nikasil .. but iron is pretty reliable widely used so perhaps it was the rings ...
That's where I got mine.. Good quality. I sent them a pitted QV Nikisil Liner for a model. Good luck, Edwardo
The Nikisil liners are for QV models. QV's were a different piston design but I do not know if they are compatible with the 2V block and pistons. Has anyone tried this.
Can't seem to locate it in my long thread but we substituted iron sleeves for the nikasil liners in my Wv with no issues so I might assume it would go the other way as well. Reason we didn't go with re-nikasil is no guarantee the coating will stick like originals. That would be a real bummer.
If you are going to revive a 308 GTSi, you would be advised to consider doing something about the anemic power output. Spending all that money to putter along is a shame. Specifically, you can go up to 3.5 liters in that block requiring new pistons, liners, crank and possibly con rods as well.
