Throttle control on '78 (thermostatic)

    So I have this throttle control gizmo and curious how to test and calibrate it (trying to synch carbs and generally make it run better).

    It seems to be a thermostat that rotates a cam to hold throttle open when cold (carb motor).

    think you mean the 'fast idle' device? try a search for that term and you should get some pics. Works by thermostatic spring expanding as coolant warms up in the pipe below. When cold, if adjusted correctly it pushes the lever against the throttle actuating lever to give you a slight fast idle. Once warmed up the spring pulls the lever away and normal idle is resumed. As others have, I've removed mine entirely and instead use my right foot as the 'fast idle' device.... One less thing to fiddle with when setting carbs :)
