And took a piece of glass with it. This mirror base is from my Lancia Scorpion and it's identical to the 308s and Porsche 914. Any suggestions on what type of glue or maybe double side tape to use?

I'd use glue in this case...you have the tape on the windshield as a template, so easy to line up. Using fresh tape means removing old, and figuring out how to line everything up perfectly again.

I clumsily knocked the mirror off my 308 way back with the targa top during the first weeks I had the car...I just used a judicious amount of superglue and carefully lined it back up. No harm, no foul.

Rifledriver posted in another thread, MIke....

The adhesive from the Factory is actually a two sided tape, if you will.

It has a Part Number, and Ricambi USA has it.
Mine recently fell off too, I don't think the glue systems work as well.

Brian warned be careful with sticking it.
    You only get one chance!

You see the seam, to pop that base loose from mirror, while sticking it.
Then the mirror snaps into the base....

There is a special 100% clear epoxy for glass. It's it fantastic. I used it to bond an aluminium table leg to glass after someone knocked the table leg clean off and the UV cure took a chunk of glass out of the table top. I had tried literally dozens of glass glues and nothing worked well until I tried this. Don't be put off by the low cost, this is awesome glue for attaching to glass: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0006O8QQ0/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

David sounds like a great product but it might just be a little too strong. I'm afraid if I knock the mirror off again it might crack the windshield instead of just knocking the mirror off the glass without breaking the windshield. What do you think?

If it really took a piece of glass with it I'd be thinking about talking to a Novus type place about taking care of the divot before putting the mirror back up.

The stuff i used is great, but i had to hold it in place for a good time until it went off enough to stay in place. They do the normal and the rapid, rapid needs a full day to cure fully but it will stay in place after 15 to 20 mins

I had the same problem. I took it to a friend in the auto glass business and he had adhesive to reattach it and never had a problem since. Auto glass people would know what works best as they do it frequently.

    Mike,

Are the entire mirrors the same or just the bases?

The base is exactly the same, the mirror is a little different but definitely interchangeable.

I would think you're gonna have to keep the old tape on and glue to it. If not, you will see the chunk missing from the outside :(

I've just learned today that the F348 uses the same base/mirror.

Ordered one from Ricambi (last one according to Daniel)and it's actually listed under the 348 parts but it's exact same for the 308s and it's cut perfect For the base shape.

Cool! Vintage packaging too. Probably original stock from the 80s or early 90s. Daniel comes through again :)

It's a lot easier if you separate the base from the arm. That's the way it usually comes off if you knock it with your head. However, now that mine is completely off the glass, I can't remember how to separate the base from the arm. Anyone out there know this?

Get a small flat screwdriver, try to push in between the the two half, and twist the flat screwdriver to separate the two piece.
