I was also there with my '86 Red/tan 328 GTS. Won a platinum for the second year in a row with a 99 score. I received a 96 last year and was able to correct a few of the issues - put the cat back on, added an emergency window crank to the tool kit and fixed the head liner that was sagging a bit. If you were in the show, make sure to call Wally next week to get your scoring issues. That way you know what to fix for next year. Platinum is now 97 points (up from 95) and a few simple "fixes" can make the difference. 328 is For sale if anyone is interested. Does your car even have access holes for the window crank? It would be an extremely rare car if it did. If there are no access holes, no window crank needed.
You mean you received your score on the day of the judging?? That is about as rare as an emergency window crank being used for a 328.
Mine is an October 1985 build and has the holes with plugs in the doors for the window cranks just below the interior door handles. Also has the early windshield wiper reservoir above the spare in the front rather than the jack tool kit in that location. The spare crank is different from that of the 308 in that it more resembles an actual window crank, not a bent steel bar. I can send photos if anyone is interested. Rare = more $? Someone make an offer. I'm looking at a 612 now (wife wants the 4 seats) and I need to clear a spot in the garage.
The early washer reservoir is not terribly uncommon but the window winders are, especially on a US car. What chassis number is it? The jack kit didn't really belong there. The 308's and 328's up to mid 87 or so there is a rubber strap in the trunk to hold it in place there. People have come to throw them on top of the spare because it is a better use of space and without the strap they just crash around in the trunk and knock off the side marker lights and antenna motor. I don't see it translating into higher value.
Do you know the exact build date ( day/month ) of your car ? To my best knowledge yours is the second US 328 built
The 2nd one should be 60053, probably built in September. The first by VIN was 59317 and it was probably built in July. Early washer reservoirs were in use until around 60760 or so and late October or early November.
The other one was so much before yours it should really be considered a US prototype. It was like the 11th 328 built. That would make yours the first US regular production car. Do you have any history? Do you know what dealer it was first sold at? That should be in the first page of the warranty manual. Does the door label really say October? Also we are talking about the order of the numbers here. Some cars are built out of order number wise. Do you know where the build or assembly number is by the ignition coils? It would sure be interesting to see what it is.
Door says October 1985. Virtually full history from new with all service records. I believe that it was sold by Ferrari of Walnut Creek, CA. I'll have to look at my records and the number by the coils when I get home. I'll post more tonight. Car is for sale. Maybe I need to up my price!
I didn't mean to hijack the thread, but to finish this out, Car was first sold on May 9, 1986 by Walnut Creek Ferrari. All early service work was done by Walnut Creek Ferrari, Ferrari of San Francisco and Cammisa Motor Car of Burlingame. I was mistaken on the door label. It is actually September 1985. I can not find any assembly number near the coils. It may be covered over with paint or I just don't know where to look. (I have a 355 as well and that assembly tag is easy to locate). Can you give me a better clue on where to look?
September makes more sense. I worked at WCF then. Curious whose car it was. I have a suspicion. The number is stamped in the frame and covered over by a piece of tape that was painted over by the black paint the chassis was painted with. It is on the vertical surface of the frame right where the coils are mounted. Ill pm you the name of the original owner. Maybe you knew them and/or worked on the car? I see the names on the service slips signed off by the service manager at Walnut Creek up through 1992. As for the production assembly number, I do not see it in that area on the vertical shown in that other thread but on the top surface next to the coolant tank, I have "2" stamped on it in the same place that the other person in post 33 from that thread had a "1". Does that make mine the 2nd 328 GTS produced? or 2nd 328 or 328 GTS produced for the US?
