    Hi guys,
I am looking at purchasing new window motors from TRutlands.

Has anyone bought these, or have any experience with these motors, or with TRutlands themselves?

    Thanks in advance....

The motors they offer are outstanding. Very fast and low voltage draw. Rutlands have been around for many years.

    Windows slow?

It is usually the caked on dried up gunk on the cables. A new motor would not be happy with that if it's there.

As Tommy said, there is more to it than a motor. There is typically no single step fix to slow windows here. Rebuilding the regulator, fixing the electricals and sometimes new window channel is needed. And dont ever expect it to work as well as a 1967 Cadillac.

    Good day John,

I suspect that what your wrote was not what you intended:

Did you mean low current draw or low voltage drop? Do you by chance having any measurements of the new motors (current drop up/down and when fully open/closed)? I ask, as I recently refreshed my window motors in my 365 GT4 2+2 (which are very similar) and found the original's specs were not too bad for up/down current (7.8A up/ 4.85A down), but were extreme at the fully open/closed positions (motor stall current was just under 19A!).

In terms of speed... my up/down times were 4.4 seconds up and 3.4 Seconds down (refreshed motors, cleaned motor gearboxes, cleaned pulleys, and new window channels)... which I am quite happy with.

    Cheers,

    Sam

Yes i fully agree with this. The plan is to clean the old grease off the cables, relube them, clean the window channels, new motors.

I then hope/expect the windows to move as quick as a new car....

    Hi there John,
Do you mean they require a lower voltage than the stock/old motors?

You need to take to window regulators out and disassemble them. The interior of the winder assembly will be full of hardened grease. It all needs to be cleaned out and relubed.

Then they will work like a new 308. Very big difference. Even as new cars we called them power assisted windows because they were so slow..

    Hi Brian,
Yes very true, this is the plan...

I know there are many posts here about the slow windows but i cant seem to find a step by step for this job. Do you know of a link? Or can you provide some further info on this?

    Thank mate ...

I think you should wait on buying motors. Do the cleanup first and see how they run then

I know several people with those new motors that Rutlands have and they love them. They also put a set on Teds old Boxer and they worked great. I am going to buy a set for my car.

I believe the motors are the same that Superformance sells for quite a bit less.

Actually its cheaper for me to convert USD rather than GBP to AUD so TRutlands works out slightly cheaper....

Is it? Did Rutlands come down in price? As I recall they were about $500 from Rutlands and £199 from Superformance or about $260

Just wondering, why can't we adopt the window regulator from 328 to the 308, is it a lot of work? Seems like the 328 has a better and faster window system.

Is there a write-up for the 328? From my understanding 308 is quite a bit different from 328.

    Thanks.

I just did my Mondial, which is a similar system to the 308 I think.

It isn't a difficult job, just tedious.

If the 308 is anything like the cable and pulley system in the Mondial, make sure to take pics and even draw the cable routing before disassembly. Knowing exactly how the cables run makes the re-assembly fast and easy.

Also, I cut a length of 1x4 wood to prop/hold the glass in the fully closed position, before removing the cables.

After cleaning the motor contacts, cleaning out the solidified lube in the winding mechanism, and lubing all pulleys, the window mechanism in my Mondial went from non-functioning to working well. It's nowhere near as fast as a modern power window, but it does work well.

Don't be afraid to try it, it is actually fairly straight-forward.

    Sid

P.S. -- I did NOT replace my cable. Nor did I disconnect it from the winder mechanism.

It's not difficult but it does take time and feeding in the new cable can be frustrating.
