I have a small crack line about 5" long around the rearview mirror base. Insurance sent someone over to repair the crack but all they did was filled in the crack with some type of resin preventing it form getting any worse. The original glass says SIGLA on it but local Ferrari parts place says they can get the original (pic below) but it doesn't say SIGLA. Anyone knows where or who has the original SIGLA for my 84 QV?

Are you sure, your windshield wasn't replaced before?
I remember, on my '80 car car the original screen said 'Saint Gobain Sekurit', but my replacement I had to purchase in 2001 said 'SIGLA' with the cavallino on it.
I suspect, that this was a much later windshield.
For sorting such details you could PM our member 'TripleBlack' in France, who runs the most detailed website www.308-328.com which deals with such details in an amazingly thorough way.

Martin, this is what's on my glass now and I am sure my glass had never been replace. Maybe the older 308 or the non QV had the Saint Gobain Sekurit and the replacement is the the Sigla that the QV and the 328 has. It make sense why your replacement says Sigla, its newer than the Saint Gobain Sekurit.

Mike you windscreen is in line with the original markings. The "Sekurit Saint Gobain" etchings are on all the other glass for the car.

AFAIK Cavallinos did not appear on the glass until the 348.

Don't skimp on 308 glass. You could spend a fortune on an aftermarket windshield sent over from Europe in a crate to find that it doesn't fit. Aftermarket glass rarely fits. This is a real dilemma, I feel really bad for you. Even when you find the right glass, installing it is a classic pain in the a$$.. I would call some of the breakers like GT Car Parts in AZ etc. and try to get OEM. Good luck.

    Hey Mike,
My '85 QV has a Sigla windshield. But the numbers below the word 'Sigla' are different. I assume it is original but am not positive.
    What caused the crack?

I was removing the rearview mirror so I can fix it as it was wabbly or I should say too much play. I've done this so many times but this time upon removing, I heard a click and there it was a crack around the rearview mirror base. It's not that visible from the outside but it is from the inside. Here's a pic from the outside with the led light inside the car otherwise It's not visible from the outside without the light because of the tint. The crack will not get any worse as the windshield shop already drilled a small hole at the end of the crack and filled it with some resin.

That's a screaming deal on a front glass. $300 for a shaded glass versus $1100 for one with the Sigla decal.. Maybe send a message to Rifledriver or someone who judges these cars and see if it's looked apon as a deduction? Perhaps it's viewed as a safety/wear item and gets a pass? I don't show my cars so I know which one I would purchase! Haha

As we discussed I had Ferrari of Newport Beach order the windshield. Took awhile but it relieved my concerns that others had expressed about the possible fit issues with aftermarket. I didn't want to get stuck with a windshield that didn't fit. Held the dealer to that responsibility and also choosing the installer at their shop just in case something happened. When Hagerty says you can get what you want why would you compromise and settle for aftermarket? I didn't and am extremely pleased.

There's a company called Pilkington Glass that makes OE glass for many manufacturers and I had heard they have the original equivalent for many Ferrari models inc the 308. I also believe you can have the original markings etched on. Give them a look anyway. I got one from Superformance before i had found out about Pilkington, as the original factory screen had delaminated at the bottom. It fits fine and has a the blue sun strip blended in nicely.

you can not have original markings on it. They will give you a Sigla marking if you want, but the remainder of the markings are different. I was quoted around 2 months lead time iirc

Ok that's good to know. I thought I'd missed out not using them. But to have the Sigla marking is better than what came on mine..!
