Has anyone here replaced their cat with a sport cat?

The idea of a less restrictive cat seems to have merit.

    Thanks.

    No change.

I drove with a Tubi test pipe for many many years. I put a Hyperflow on because I was sick of the smell.

The smell is 85% gone. The sound is 50% quieter (in a good way) and the performance is the same as it was with the stock cat two decades ago.

Keep in mind how much hp you need to gain to actually feel. That cat is not capping any significant amount off.

So change cats from stock just to change the sound a bit. Don't expect it to unleash some hidden performance gains

Thanks for the feedback. I'm under the impression that Cats cause an engine, or at least the area around the Cat to be at a higher temperature. Did you notice any heat difference when you had the straight pipe on?

    Thanks

I have a QV so I get the hot temp thing here and there that other 308 models don't seem to have much of a problem with. I have owned the car for 20 years this September and I have put over 60,000 miles on it - 100% in the deep south. Georgia Alabama and Florida mostly. Lots of heat and humidity.

180 degree radiator fan switch - no change.

replaced the hood foam (mine was gone when I bought it) - no change.

Placed as really great puller fan on the back of the oil cooler - no change

    stock cat/Tubi test/Hyperflow - no change.

Bigger aluminum radiator - big change on highway, in town - no change.

This is just my non scientific observations with my car.

Interesting stuff. I know with my 911 the elimination of the cat, experimental of course, reduced the amount of heat flowing from the left rear fender after shutdown. Yeah, the car stinks more without it for sure but it most definitely gained a base note in the exhaust.

I had the same experience reverting my 3.2 to stock cats, after having driven with gutted cats. The sound from the gutted cat setup was enough to give me a headache after an hour's drive. Cats on, much nicer at cruising speed, but the car still barked at WOT.

And, yeah, couldn't notice any change in performance. Did notice that I could pass smog. :)

No such thing. Go with test cats and aggressive exhaust. If you have dull us cams then buy Camry and fit loud exhaust. You will then feel the difference.

Seriously, these cars are under powered by modern standards. They are eye candy. They are nostalgic. They are sexy as hell. They are beautiful. They are not fast.

My cats were burned out and rattling...I gutted them and and reinstalled...no perceivable difference except a little more agressive sound :)

Nope, I removed them and started stuffing long sharp objects in the receptacles until all extraneous material was exhumed...wasn't easy :(
