Do I have to manually turn the radio on and off each time I get into the car??
Mine is aftermarket (with bluetooth ) so it will not apply, but I have to manually turn mine off or it will stay on all night!
Almost every aftermarket / brand name stereo has a remote turn on lead (often blue in color) that should be wired to an ACC circuit wire in the car to turn the unit on only when the car is on. See if you can find the wire diagram for the unit you have on the net to see which color is the right one for your stereo, then just connect it to the acc lead in the stereo wiring bundle. Or you can buy the aftermarket adapter for the 355 and reqire the whole unit (this would be my choice). BT
Screw all that---time for a new Alpine 5" touchscreen w/ nav...Thanks PAP you just gave me an excuse to put a Alpine in the car...
If its the awesome factory Sony unit, then yes you do. But more importantly, how in the hell do you even hear the radio?
u r correct---as soon as my buddy gets his lift cleared---we will attempt install of X-OST----FOW wanted $500 to install it, I told them I will do it myself...Can't be that hard--Remove bumper, etc....
No stress, I'll be getting one too from Daniel soon, when I do i'll start a thread for the install of it from start to finish and also upload dyno performance links and pictures before and after install just for us Image Unavailable, Please Login
Had the old Sony in mine too and i was obliged to switch it off every time. I do not like that ... a good way to forget it and drain the battery. I have upgraded to a new Pioneer (CD, MP3, ...) ... euh ... I do not listen very often, I do prefer the V8 symphony, but for long trip it can help! Not the question anyway. There is no "accessory" wire, in the original wiring, which can allow you to switch off automatically the radio when you remove the key. There is no wire because there is no "accessory" position. In fact there is a virtual one, which is used to power on the ABS as soon as possible. It is very easy to connect an extra wire at the master switch level and to route it to the radio. Have done it and it works great, am sure now that the radio is off (but the memory circuit) when i leave the car ... with keys in my pocket. Could show the wire to use on a diagram if you want.
Here it is! I use the ligh blue wire, made soldering on it without cutting it. Done in less than 1 hour, but need to remove the top and bottom plastic covers around the switch for a better access. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yes the light blue wire. Splice a piece of wire on it and use this new wire as an "accessory" wire. You can see on the diagram that battery voltage is present on this wire when the key is position I (virtual), position II and Start, but not when the key is removed. It works!
Yeah thats what I thought, On you schematic I traced it back to a green wire that all, What brand head unit do you have? A Sony unit? I thought the light blue wire was for the remote on for the amp? Either way like you said you need to switch it off a accessories curcuit for it to turn on and turn off when you stop the engine and remove the key. On my 348TB my brother done the same as yourself and rewired it though a accessory circuit, don't remember which one off hand but mine was wired up wierd from the start, when ever you turned on the lights the power to the stereo would switch off, we bypassed that crap straight away when I bought it
I have now a Pioneer unit (will post a picture). When I talk about the light blue wire, I mean the CAR blue wire (A color for ... Azzuro).
No sorry my mistake, i misinterpreted the A close to the connector. The wire on the car is not A color but GN color which is not green but Giallo-Nero (yellow - black). The "ACC" wire on my head unit is yellow.
... and the blue (or blue-white) from the head unit is effectively used to remote switch on the power amplifier and to switch on the antenna amplifier.
