Do any of the stooges know what the alternator reference # is, and is there a aftermarket replacement? My light came on yesterday, it blinked during revs then stayed on steady, made it to my mechanics, volts were reading 8.5 to 9. Should I rebuild or replace with after market one? if replace what are compatibles alternators?
Hey Moe! The Nippondenso alternator (140amp) is p/n 156235 which carries ND # 101211-7580. Nyuck, Nyuck, Nyuck
Rebuild is $200 and will likely be better than new. If your rotor isn't shorted you can do it yourself for $50.
Rebuild! Search for the threads. Generally the bearings are not a concern, due to low miles on Ferraris, as are the brushes. The key parts you need to swap out are the regulator and rectifier. You can do it without removing from the car....at least I did on my 355. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=142329&highlight=348+alternator
thank you Brother Good to know Lane I take it you speak from experience. Sweet thanks Bro this helped.
Be sure to read the whole thread in the link that was provided. We found some differences in the size of the housing later on, and it was causing a problem with the rectifiers touching the housing = no good because of potential shorting. Also there was a different number rectifier that had the correct bolt size for the positive cable. So be sure to read the entire post Berto, then have at it.
Yeah.......but then it wouldn't be as much "fun" to read. It was interesting going back and seeing how we progressed with the rebuild info.
All good boys had it rebuilt today for a whopping $150, good as new Thanks for everyone help I LOVE THE BROTHERHOOD
Ask Daniel at RicambiAmercia, he'll know what belt you need. One belt is 776mm and the other is 774mm. It just depends on what alternator pulley size you have.
Hello Ernie and thank you for your reply, I think the dimensions are those of the reference 199824 (770 for the 90A) And 199830 (760 for 105A) If this is the case, none will go with the alternator 101211-7850, too small diameter pulley 5.49.
Keep in mind there is a belt tensioner, so you can tighten up a belt that is slightly too big. I would just take my old belt to the auto parts store and have them match it up.
