I did a few searchs for part weights on the F355 like Doors, OEM Leather Seats, Cats (5.2), carpets, etc... Trying to reduce weight on a street 355.

The only thing that came up were the challenge wheel weights but, not the other items...

What search string should I use?

    Ciao,

    Thanks!

I found these as well off FChat. Still need each door weight (door shell, glass, electronics) & Secondary Cat on 5.2, interior carpet and any other major item that can be scraped. I am not taking my carpet out but, it's good to know.

    Primary Cats: 14 lbs (set)

Muffler: 43.5 lbs (Some listed as 49 lbs?)

Tubi Muffler: 30 lbs (Some listed as 37 lbs?)

    Ciao,

Just curious Stanislaus, what's the benefit of stripping weight from a street-only car? Would a reduction of three or four hundred pounds really affect performance and fuel economy? And if so, is it worth the investment of time and money to replace OEM parts with lighter, aftermarket ones? Henry

A reduction of 300 lbs dramatically improves the performance. 10% of the weight of the car!

As a side note, we got a 355 Challenge down to 2750 pounds by stripping basically everything. I think we could ahve gotten another 100 by rebuilding the front and rear bumpers so that the substructures would just barely hold the components on.

After that, it gets harder. And this was a 355 Challenge with a full SCCA legal roll cage.

Local company in Hk produced a mega spec 355GTS with some great liking carbon parts, the owner of the company Tony is also very nice to deal with, google Revozport, they send their stuff worldwide. I was going to order the whole interior set in carbon for them but then decided that money would be better spent on sorting out my car's mechanical issues first!

You know for a fact that these parts are still available? They disappeared from revozport.com a long time ago (except for the GTS roof) and I believe I inquired about them without response.

much smaller size & needed slight mods to fit.

I know that the GTS is still in the possession of the owners of the company and I did ask about those parts too, I think they are available but are quite expensive.

    Henry,

Over the last 2 years my 355F1 has become more of a Track Car that I actually drive to near by tracks outside of Houston, Texas for a weekend of PCA DE (Drivers Education). My focus will always be safety when driving on the highways but, I do want to be a bit quicker out at the track. A hard equation for a street car as there is not much room where weight could be reduced but, this would make a huge difference while out on track. I like the looks of the car and don’t want it looking like some old beat up challenge car.

The Ferrari F355 Challenge made to compete in Ferrari’s popular Challenge Series, this berlinetta weighed approximately 200 pounds less than the street car. It had a more spartan interior; wire mesh “Challenge” rear grille; lower and stiffer suspension; and revised exhaust, brakes, and wheels.

The final ‘95 release was the one-off 355 Competizione shown in Geneva. It was approximately 500 pounds lighter than the F355 Berlinetta and featured a “paddle-shift” sequential manual transmission.

    Ciao,

    SRR

How much does the driver weigh? I've shared this story once before but back in my racing days the team manager always said it's easier and a whole lot cheaper to take 10 pounds off the driver than it is to take 10 lbs out of the car. He told me he would focus on weight reduction on the car when I hit 160lbs. That was the last time we talked about it ;)

Seriously, it does make a huge difference taking the weight out so best of luck!

Did some research on the subject myself. Do not have weights, but here are some options which do not compromise the OEM specs much. The mentioned company's can possible give you the weights of the specific items:

    - Carbon fibre door panels

    http://www.m-tecnologia.jp/products/355/05.html

    and centre console

    http://www.m-tecnologia.jp/products/355/04.html

from a Japanese company called M-tecnologia (numerous Japanese company's seem to have lots of great quality carbon fibre products by the way, not only for Ferrari but also for BMW, Alfa Romeo, etc.):

    - Carbon fibre front hood (4,2 kg instead of the normal 11,5kg) and carbon fibre dashboard (3,63 kg) from formula GT, a German, Munich based company :

    formula GT - TUNINGTEILE

Other obvious (and already mentioned) light weight items which can easily be undone:
    - Exhaust parts
    - Trunk fabric removal
    - Lexan side windows
    - Radio and speaker delete
    - Light weight battery
    - Light weight wheels, the magnesium Speedline Challenge wheels for instance
    - Bucket seats, like the o.e.m. carbon fibre Bucket seats

I just weighed a challenge front and rear bumper I just received with all mounting hardware and substructures. Rear bumper weight is 22lbs. Front bumper is 20lbs. I agree, there are ways to reduce these parts down to the 10lb range each, but I don't see where you're finding an additional 100 lbs. Unless that challenge car was equipped with the standard bumpers. I don't know the weights of the standard bumpers, but they are very heavy. I will weigh them and post once I get the opportunity
