Just web browsing during a dull lunch break and found this...........with all the rather spirited discussions occurring in various threads about this topic at the moment, I found it surprising that they would be this close.

Ferrari 348 0 to 60 mph and Quarter Mile Times

    1990 Ferrari 348 TB 0-60 mph 5.9 Quarter mile 14.1
    1993 Ferrari 348 TB Series Speciale 0-60 mph 5.5 Quarter mile 13.8
    1993 Ferrari 348 TS Spider 0-60 mph 5.5 Quarter mile 13.9

Ferrari F355 0 to 60 mph and Quarter Mile Times

    1994 Ferrari F355 GTS 0-60 mph 4.6 Quarter mile 12.8
    1995 Ferrari F355 Berlinetta 0-60 mph 4.6 Quarter mile 12.6
    1996 Ferrari F355 Spider 0-60 mph 4.8 Quarter mile 13.2
    1997 Ferrari F355 Berlinetta 0-60 mph 4.7 Quarter mile 13.0
    1997 Ferrari F355 Spider 0-60 mph 5.2 Quarter mile 13.5
    1997 Shelton Ferrari F355 Spider Competizone 0-60 mph 4.3 Quarter mile 12.8
    1998 Ferrari 355 F1 0-60 mph 4.7 Quarter mile 13.1

    I found it at....

    Ferrari 0-60 Times & Ferrari Quarter Mile Times | Ferrari 458 Spider, 355, 360 Modena, F430, FF, F50, LaFerrari 0-60 and Ferrari 599 GTB 0 to 60 stats!

Sure the 355 is better in many area's. You would expect that from an update model, however are the 348 and F355 really sooooo different as some would argue. These times look pretty close to me for a quarter mile run.

They are not that different. They are all beautiful and cool in many similar ways.

I like the '95 B times of my model... Not that you could feel the minute difference.

The 355 is so fast that I am crazy busy managing the different tasks while enjoying a fast drive and putting it through its paces / from eyes looking to so many different places to feet and hands. If you need a faster car, then good luck to you Michael Schumacher.

If you prefer a slower, less exciting car, then I would bypass the 348 which is great and an icon of its own and go after the many 360's out there.

    I kid...

Speaking strickly about the 1/4 mi times, the difference between high-13's and low 13's is huge in drag racing.

I can't see a 360 a 3.7 sec car. I've never seen that time in any magazine test, not even close.

I've looked at that website before, and I have to say a LOT of those times are complete and utter bull****.

With that time you mentioned being right at the top of the list.

To put it into perspective, at the trap speed of 100 mph the difference between a 12.8 and a 13.5 is more than 7 car lengths.

    Actually, just found it.

Ferrari's official time for the F1GTS 1/4 mile is 12.9 sec

On the street, these 0-60 differences are significant.

    1990 Ferrari 348 TB 0-60 mph 5.9

    1994 Ferrari F355 GTS 0-60 mph 4.6

A 2008 Honda Accord Coupe EX-L does it in 5.7, but I'm gonna keep my Ferrari, thank-you.

Basically the F355 is 1 second faster than the 348 at both 0-60 and 1/4 mile.

And you want to assert that they are "about the same". This is a flawed argument.

We are only talking about straight line acceleration, even which the differences are HUGE by "drag racing" standards. A couple of tenths is considered significant. The real value with the difference in performance would come on a road course. Multiply "small" differences by 10-20 turns across an entire track and suddenly the overall performance differences become much more apparent.

Not to take away from the 348, it is an absolute phenomenal car and the last of an Era IMO.

So, is 4 seconds a lap faster around Fiorano considered significant?

As Radar on MASH would say......highly significant. They are looking for tenths of a second improvements.

What is the purpose of comparing a 1997 model to a 1989 model? Is anyone really shocked that the '89 model isn't as fast as a '97? I am not.

There is no point. In the real world it means nothing.

    Someone asked, that is all.

(I also faintly recall someone claiming there was very little performance improvement from 348 to 355, but I may have been mistaken).

The old rule of thumb is .1 sec = ~ 1 car length, give or take. This agrees with what John posted.
