I recently picked up one of the top speed pro-1 challenge exhaust sets on ebay on a whim as a track day exhaust. I attached a pic of it installed, fit without issue. Only difference to stock is the lack of a locating lip where it mates to the bypass valve but there were no issues lining it up. I didn't use a bracket on top as it weighs around 8lbs. vs. the 45lbs. of the stock exhaust - the main reason I bought it (or so I keep trying to convince myself). It felt like it put less stress on the exhaust pipes than the stock heavy unit, but I may weld something up to attach it using the stock mounts just for peace of mind. So, the wife and I took a day off of work to go for a nice drive and a brought along my go-pro. 'Testing' I call it. Here are the results: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=acpYaCgwcos]Top Speed Pro-1 f355 Challenge exhaust in VA mountains - YouTube[/ame] Now, the video does not do the volume justice. I ran for around 5 minutes with the window down (basically the duration of the video) and, well any longer and I'd need ear protection. If you baby it and leave the windows up, it's live-able, but barely. It was an hour and a half drive to lunch in Staunton from Richmond, after which we took a nice drive in the mountains where I recorded the video, but much longer on the highway wouldn't really be fun. That said, I'm not really in a hurry to take it back off . It sounds absolutely wicked, it's loud but at around 7000rpm it sounds like full on Armageddon. Image Unavailable, Please Login
No need for brackets let it float. Brackets may add more pressure then without do to loads Mine floats I have a tubi challenge 9 lbs Great "test" you get an "A"
That is so awesome. My wife would have kicked my ass for having fun like that. Would this be too loud to drive through my neighborhood? My tubi is nice, but nothing like yours!
sounds a little deep for my taste but still sounds great , especially for $770, I was hoping someone would get one. I was scared off by the low price. Guess I shouldnt have been ...is that with stock cats?
You won't get the true sound unless your outside of the car. Even my Tubi sounds a lot deeper inside the cabin than it really is.
Pete, it sounds awesome!! I can tell you it sounds just like mine. I like the part where your wife is talking and you drownd here out with the revs
Thanks! Yes, she was saying something about making all that noise in a yellow ferrari might draw police attention but I didn't catch the end of it
Not if they are hi-flow cats. I fully understand how loud things can get with pure pipes. But they sure do sound sweet.
I dont understand why you guys ruin the best thing ( the sound) about the 355 by putting obnoxious exhausts on them , kinda like 18 year old boys with mustangs with no mufflers. They soynd great stock , sound great with tubi , nouvalari etc , but to my ears , the sound in that video sounds awful , not meaning to insult , to each his own , but not a good sound .its just loud , not refined , sounds like a hyundai tiburon with no exhaust whatsoever. Youve taken a car that sounded like pavoratti and have made it sound like a contestant that gets voted off american idol in the first round " serenity now "
Yeah, you're right. It sounds exactly like a challenge car and everyone knows they sound awful, like most other race cars.
Me too... Mine with stock cats sounded and a Tubi sounded awesome...now not so much with test pipes. Sounds deep and quieter and not so refined as someone said..
I think it is a "355 thing", mine sounds delicious with Fabspeed headers and Nouvalari I like it. Wait did I hear a "you are driving to fast " ??? So hard to hear over 6000 rpm Never heard a tiburon with no exhaust, lots of Hondas dragging there custom flares with the welded on coffee can exhaust tips, they all seem to shift at 5-6000 RPMs ..... So sad I feel for them.
I know you are jesting, but you are actually right. On a track, fine. There is a purpose. On the street, annoying. But it's your car. If it makes you happy...., but when you guys develop a little tinnitus you'll understand.
I hate to break it to you, both the most natural sounding 355 is one with no muffler. All the after market mufflers are just add-ons - not really anything to do with Ferrari Take notice to the reverberation sound Pete gets when he's near the side of the mountains. Same happens to me even going through town with high buildings on each side. It sounds killer and everyone around stops to look
Natural sounding???? What's natural about an internal combustion engine? Leaves rustling in the wind, birds chipping, waves crashing on a beach. That's natural and pleasing. Try marketing a relaxation tape or CD that plays an endless loop of a 355 with straight going through the gears. Relaxing? Not so much. Have to differ with you here my friend. Few will bother to look and the majority of those who do are more likely thinking, "who's the idiot disturbing the peace'. Kind of like when out for a nice drive and you get stuck behind a group of guys on Harleys with straight pipes. Too loud is just annoying.
And who said "Relaxing" Not me - and that sounds like a good idea you have, John. I can't get enough of that sound
It is most certainly not relaxing. But, shocking as it may be, I didn't buy it to relax. Actually the opposite. That's why I didn't buy one with a removable roof, I'm no playboy out for a relaxing drive with the wind in my hair. As I said in my first post, I really bought it as a track exhaust but I wasn't going to swap it at the track. I do agree too loud is annoying for others (and make no mistake, it is too loud when you get on it), but if you look at where I was opening it up there weren't really any other cars around, certainly none behind me. There also weren't any houses or businesses to disturb, either. So, the only person I was annoying was my wife and she's a good sport
