Hello, Does anyone have ANY information regarding repairing, replacing, reprogramming a defective (Diagnostic Side) my 1999 F1 ECU. Maranello and Local Ferrari Dealerships have been of little/NO use and without this repair/replacement the car is little more than a parts car. Thank You, Kevin

The TCU is $1950 and is non repairable.

At this time replacement is your best bet

I have been messing around programming the 5.2 but not got into the diagnostics side. If you want to get ride of your bad ecu I can give you something for it so I can test with it

I know a guy that has a good used one if you like also

I got mine through FNA. Rich Kansky, Service Manager at Penske-Wynn Ferrari-Maserati here in Las Vegas hooked me up.

He is a good friend of mine, and I will check with him in the morning if you want me to.

I forgot to ask if you checked a known good TCU in your car.
It can always be a wire loom issue.

What symptoms does your car have?

I can ask/get R,1st,2nd sometimes 3rd,4th and again 5th,6th. have checked (Leonardo) and bypassed ECU, Can get ALL GEARS w/Leonardo so believe to have eliminated "side-shift sensor" issue. Re-Connect ECU and back to original problem??? Thanks

You ABSOLUTELY need to check your car with a known good F1 TCU.

Here is a picture of mine that won't select neutral.

What are the symptoms on your car.

I PM'd you my contact info.

The description on the yellow box with the black horses says "F1 Transmission ECU".

Everybody I dealt with referred to it as "The TCU".

You need to get to a real Ferrari dealership and get a diagnosis. You may have a poor connection at the TCU. Does it go to neutral when you pull both paddles?

The fact Ferrari doesn't keep any parts for models more than 9 years old is a crock of ****, especially when, as you stated, the car is useless without it. They sold thousands of F1's, this is inexcusable. I just got done rebuilding my entire power unit as its EV valves failed and needed replacing, and of course, Ferrari didn't have them as they never stocked them. Fortunately my dealer's service manager figured out a way to use the valves from a 612 to fix it. However, this part doesn't have any sort of work around, turning the damn car into a paperweight, unless you scrap the F1 and put in a manual. I would love Ferrari to be exposed for this practice. If people knew that they would be unable to get crucial parts their secondary market would collapse until this bull**** practice is stopped.

have you contacted any of the ecu repair shops online? I sent off a couple of electronic control boxes for an NSX to a guy and he fixed them for a very reasonable cost compared to new ones.

I would think someone with a lot of circuit board experience could go through it and check for loose solder joints, and simple stuff like that.

How much are they worth? I have one still on my swapped car, but am keeping my options open.

Not having a single solenoid working could be as simple as a sub $1 FET, an input not working could be a sub $0.10 input protection diode, or as emac suggested a simple mechanical fault on the board, non-repairable is not a term I would immediately apply. I would be more than happy to take a look at any failed units as it would help me further document the F1 system and identify common failure points. If it is an unavailable ASIC or some such issue then we might be stuck, but if it is an off the shelf component or mechanical failure I can likely repair it. Might be time to build a test rig and breakout board.
