I was just wondering what are the thoughts on the Challenge grille installed on a 348. I have seen a couple of 348s come up last couple months that had this done.

This is the one where the grille uses the two 550 lights per side with a screen in-between.

In some ways, it makes the car look even wider, giving it the 2 lights per side look. On other hand, it is not "real" , you know what I mean ... perhaps ... making it look a bit like a "kit". And, changing the way the car was designed to look originally.

I do have to think ... would it be harder to find a buyer later if I decide to sell.

Anyways, just looking for perspective. I'm not saying I dislike it, just would love to hear others. I might be adding to my 308GTB in the not too distant future.

    Thank you, guys.

If you do it right you should be able to convert back as long as you keep the stock parts nullifying any resale concerns. I prefer the round taillight look, but that's part of the reason I bought a 355. It's your car, do what you like with it I say.

+1. It can be reversed, so if you dig it, go for it!

Nice!! Do your back-up light point straight like in 355 or do they curve/follow the direction of the grille? Know what I mean?

But they fit perfectly, and are pointed correctly. Not up in the air like so many other conversions tend to do. That being said there are many posts about this do a few search's. Again go with a OEM Challenge Grill (will need to be modified) the rest will fit perfectly after the modification. 348 rear grills are a bit wider than 355's (shocking but true) and 348 grills are not as tall…

Ok cool. Thats what I meant. I saw several conversions where the lights point-up and it kind of ruins the look. Yours looks great.

Looks good, and I think that style of tail light suits the 348 a little better. The harder edges match the rest of the car, very nice!

Personally I'd like to see a design that looks like something the factory would have come up with for the 348 rather than a conversion to the 355 grill.

It seems like the grilles do vary a bit. In this thread we had 3 different examples, although in my eyes all look solid.

In the grille on the black 348 a real challenge?

I don't know. Those are pics of a 348 that I was looking at before I bought my 355

The grille on the black Spider is definitely not a genuine challenge grille.

Genuine grilles are mesh all the way across and not just between the tail lights as that one is.

Isnt the grill on the black one, one of them after market 348 Lemans grills? Some one on here was making them a couple of years back.

How does one locate a 355 Challenge grill these days?

For an authentic look IMHO I suggest that you use a real Challenge Grill, it truly makes all the difference. As you can see from the photo below you do "see through" a bit due to the perforation of the grill. And if at it, why not add another vent in the front, the added one is for break cooling… I need to take some additional photos which I may do this weekend and post, also had my fender "punched" and added OEM shields.

Fenders were actually punched with a hydraulic press/shield just like the factory ones. No cutting needed, not sure why one would "cut". They are perfect in every way. The OEM shields fit perfectly in.
