What do your sidelights do? Do they just light up when you turn your lights on or do they flash with your turn signals? Or do they do both?

I know stock is an amber plastic lens but has anyone changed to clear plastic with an amber bulb (I see they are available).

We have white/clear ones here in the UK at the front. They serve as both side lights and indicators. They work in two halves.
Talking about lights, I do know that our use of the two round lights in the lower section of the bumper are different in use to that of the USA. Ours work on only to flash, were as i beleve the USA can just switch them on.
Also i personaly dont like the side running light thing the US cars have, we dont have them i am glad to say.

Thanks Dino. Do I have this right, they do both, turn on steady with your other lights and also flash with your turn signals? Each bulb has two filaments, one for the flashers and another for the steady lights?

But something else you said confuses me, two round lights in the lower section of the bumper. I thought UK cars only had the little round side lights located just below the fender shields and that's it. No bumper lights at all like we have here in the US.

    Any chance for some pix?

He is talking about our bumper fog lights. There bumper has clear lenses over their front signals. There fog lights are actually for flashing and usually activated opposite the high beams. So if you push your stock for high beams then you would pull it for flashing the fog lights. I think that's for like passing on the highways or whatever.

I am still unsure if their side light by the shields lights up always or just when signalling.

He was talking about what we call the fog lights. We can turn on our park lights and then flip the switch and they will turn on as fog/driving lights in the US but the Euro cars are wired to only use them as flashers. Like to warn someone you are flying up on them and plan to pass.

OK. I didn't think there were any bumper side lights in UK cars like here in the US.

Exactly where in the fender are the UK sidelights located? Anyone have some pix or dimensions?

Since I'm repainting my car this winter, I'm thinking of deleting my side bumper lights and adding the UK type side lights instead.

Great looking car Steve! Really nice! Thanks for the photos. I see the sidelight is mounted directly centered under the fender shield. Yours looks to be amber but I'm told by Dino and others clear is also available. To make sure I put it in the correct place, could you give me the dimension from its center down to the top edge of the seam below it. Looks to be maybe 2" to 2 1/2" or so.

Could you clarify another thing for me? Do the sidelights come on steady when you turn on the lights as well as flash brighter with the turn signals? Dino implied this but Taz355 said he wasn't sure so that's why I'm looking for clarification. If this is true, although there is another way this could be accomplished, do you know if the bulb has two separate filaments, one for lights and the other for turn signals which would be the more common way to do it?

I'm asking all this because, if I decide to make this change to my car, I want to get it right.

The button lights under the wing badges are known as side indicators not side lights. The front side lights are the oval looking lights on the front face of the bumper.
My indicators under the badge has been swapped out for aftermarket clear, standard they are amber.
The reason for the confusion on this thread is because you are using the wrong description mate.

    Dino,

Thanks for the clarification. Sorry for the confusion about the terminology for the lights. I just didn't know what you guys in the UK call them. We call the round front bumper lights "Fog Lights" (apparently a difference use than yours....different part numbers too) and the other two that partially wrap around the side of the bumper "Parking Lights". Ours are amber, yours are clear with amber bulbs (I like yours better and have changed mine to clear). Since we don't have your indicator lights on the "wings" (we call them fenders), I just tried to describe them based on their location, the side of the car.

Anyway, I think I'm on the right page with you now and just trying to understand dimensionally where these lights are located and how they work for the reasons I stated above.

    Thanks Jerry.

The distance from the centre of the round indicator to the TOP of the seam is 65mm.

In the UK / AUS cars the round lights on the bottom of the front bumper are "flashers". The ONLY time they come on is if you pull on the left-hand stalk. They stay on only as long as you pull on the stalk, and can not be turned on any other way.

The clear rectangular lights at the front have two components. When you turn on the parking lights (first click of the lights) the inner sections come on and are coloured white.
When you indicate a turn, the outer sections flash and are orange. Of course the small round orange lights under the shield also flash.

I didn't know you could get that small orange light in clear. Does anyone have a pic of that on a red car?

    Cheers, Steve.

Dino, do you have any pics of the clear lenses on a red 355?

From further away? Can't tell much about the overall look from the close-ups.

    Where can one purchase them?

Again: do you have any from further back?

You can't tell much about the overall look from 1/2 an inch away...

Yes I do, but seeing that your mother did not teach you any manners....no I won't :)
I posted a close up to show the details of the indicators, which was about 10 inches away FYI. Had I shown a shot from a far, you would have wanted a close up ;) Use your imagination.

    Lol!

You may have taken the pics from 10 inches away, but as you used a 300mm lens I can pretty much see the molecular structure of the plastic. :)

My imagination tells me that the clear lenses would look great on a black or dark blue car, but until I see a pic of them on a red one from further away I'll hang on to my money.

    Thanks anyway! ;)

    Amber ones look way better.
And that's how they came out of the factory.
Clear lenses are a manufacturing error.

Thanks for the dimension Steve. That's right at 2 1/2".

IMHO the small round lights under the shield look better in clear since that's more neutral in color, especially nice with the clear parking lights (consistency). Of course, that's me, YMMV.

Just one last clarification. You said the "shield" lights flash with the turn signals. Is that all? Are you saying they don't also come on steady with the parking lights. In other words, they only flash with the turn signals and are always off otherwise.

As to where to get the clear ones, I bought mine from a company called BM Town in the UK off ebay. They are identical to the OEM except the lens is clear and the bulb is amber (orange). Here's a contact email address: [email protected] There is a Facebook page as well: facebook.com/pages/Ferrari-Styling-Ferrari-Specialist/108214885865601?ref=hl

    You get me wrong Dino
I am not an OEM type.
The Larini adds to the car
Clear side repeaters imo do not...the amber tint looks better

I have plenty of non oem Hill Engineering stuff to make the car better.

+1 I'm with you there. Maybe if they where fogged a little bit, white like the side marker/park lights it would be OK, but I really don't like being able see the bulb. Just my opinion though and like I always say if Dino likes them that's all that matters.
