Stocking up for future maintenance and upkeep. Ordered Scuderia Rampante coolant hoses. Should be here next week. Dave Helms has good stuff. Robb Image Unavailable, Please Login
Randy, $1,000 dollar bill. You can also find them at Ricambi. I've seen lots of hoses fail. I'm not taking chances on my 355. Robb Image Unavailable, Please Login
So what is so special about these hoses and why wouldn't standard hoses from companies like Gates do the job? especially 4 x 171631 I took a standard straight length myself and cut it into four. the cooling system on the F355 is nothing more special than any other car. Same pressure, same max water temp.
Maybe the fact that they are silicone allows them to withstand the negative effects of the high engine bay heat better or longer.
My Honda accord hose failed a few weeks back. I think im going have to file against Honda because the hose had to be defective. It was 18 years old and had 270k miles on it.. thankful it allowed me to still still an hour home where autozone had another one for $10..This is ridiculous that a hose can last longer then 18 years and that the motor has outlasted it...
Oh geez, this is beginning to sound like another thread I know... Poor Dave Helms, no wonder he ran to the hills. p.s. I have no dog in this fight, I like those hoses a lot but I'm not sure it's worth putting 1k for them...on the fence.
Actually one of the coolant tank hoses on my 355 burst last year....water pump one i think 55,000 miles though.
Has anyone bothered to perform a detailed comparison between these and the others before rendering an opinion?
2 months ago, but there's a lot less expensive options out there without the name brand. We're talking about cars here, fellas. Not the Space Shuttle.
I've used them, they are very well made and significantly more robust than anything else out there. One tip, make sure that the supplied clamps are very tight, especially on the 145015.
Is there a need to? Good product? I would say yes. Worth the price? That's in the eye of the beholder. As far as functionality goes, if the OEM hoses have lasted 15-20 years, or more (my 308 has mostly 30 year old water hoses) is there any question that a new Gates hose, which is probably of equal or better quality than the OEM hoses, would be sufficient? Some people will pay $10k for a membership in private tennis or golf club. Some will play on a public course. Does one or the other make you play any better? FYI: I have never in over 50 years had to replace a coolant hose on any vehicle I have owned regardless of age or mileage.
Come on, John... I was expecting a technical analysis from you. The club analogy really does not fit here....
But it does Dave. In this case you are paying a lot for the logo. Also, Tim is correct. Make sure you tighten the clamps sufficiently because silicon doesn't seal as well or grip the metal as well and tends to weep or blow off. Of course, if you over tighten, you can crush the radiator in/out tubes.
http://www.supertweaks.com/ferrari/ferrari-hose-kits/ferrari-f355-silicone-coolant-hose-kit-8-piece These are the hoses you can get through AW How many of these can you change with the engine in?
You can change all of them with the engine in, some are really tough. The four little ones to the radiators would teach you a new vocabulary in different languages if you try to do it with the engine in especially the one on the left side.
Is there a link for that on Aw's site? I'm curious....why would they offer them and not list them on their site? Also, strange that they offer 3 colors but don't have a photo....clearly the red & blue option are photoshops of the black ones. That concerns me...if they make/sell a lot of them, why not have a photo of each color. Am I too skeptical for nothing?
The private courts are well kept and come with showers. Back to the hoses. Those SRI hoses are top of the hills, but $1K ...gulp. I cut the hoses off every major so I would be having a hard time spending $1,000 each time. I did just buy a foot of yellow Gates 1 1/4 hose to do the four radiator hoses for about $25. They are inferior to the SRI hoses, but not by much. 1/4 fuel injection hoses do well for the 2 long bleeder hoses. 5/8 inch coolant hoses will also do for the heater hoses. The two large right angle ones and the S hose, they are hard to come by but there are alternatives. Good clamps, $30 total, or re-use the factory metric ones. Spend the $1,000 on a new water pump, that is where you need it.
Aw is down the street from my office. I went and saw the hose kit. The link for the hoses is on another of their sites. I'll dig it up and post it
