It was a great day in Denver. Lots going on - all Ferrari related. Picked up my original yellow painted grill for my F355 from a previous owner of my car tonight. I also got a vintage photo of my car from his good times with the car. I hadn't seen one before up close (always having a challenge grill) and was surprised at the metal's thickness. I thought it would be thicker. Paint looked great. The cavalino is on my current challenge grill. Funny story is that my car has swapped this grill for challenge grills twice in its ownership run - with it being mounted in garages until that owner wanted a change. My son helped me pick it up. We celebrated with some great Chinese food... And then went to FedEx office to pack it up carefully for the trip back to AZ. Robb Image Unavailable, Please Login
Seeing as some of these sell for $1000 I'm VERY thankful that he reunited it to me for the car at no charge... And it is the original grill delivered with the car 20 years ago. $75.00 to ship and pack at FedEx ground. It will make it to our garage wall of fame and onto the car for a future swap when we go to a concours... Robb
Thanks much! Great to track the owners and their experiences with my car for it's "records book". I've got it all in there. Like: Two grill changes. Taking the car on the track and overheating a clutch... Adding the challenge clutch heat shield afterward which... disappeared along the way... The aftermarket alarm that woke up the neighbors... (Since removed) The valve guide replacement only a month after another $$$ major service. Doh. The story about its original order... And delivery in '95 All fun linking the history of the car all back to me - like Kevin bacon! Robb
So, tons of cool Ferrari time today. Started with my friend Ryan (Sherpa). Got to spend 4 hours with him on all things Ferrari. Great stories. F40 550 F355 348 challenge And everything in between. Ryan picked a great spot for lunch. Robb Image Unavailable, Please Login
I got to dive into his steering wheel collection... I think I need a collection now myself. And see some great pieces of literature, brochures, and memorabilia. Robb. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Loved the F40 US seats. It was very cozy and fit well. I may need to take his advice and find a set... Robb Image Unavailable, Please Login
He gave me a great book on the designers at Alfa. I brought him an F40 book last trip to Maranello with some other doo-dads So I'm headed back in late March and will find more cool stuff for him... Thank you very much again Ryan (Sherpa) Robb Image Unavailable, Please Login
But another great find today was to buy from him an OEM thin plate frame that came with the F355's at delivery. The judges at concours look for this plate frame or deduct points... I'll need to get it re-powder coated. I'm so happy to mark it off my list. He also gave me a FOD frame since it was my home shop for 25 years. Great memories to swap out on my car. So after lunch, we headed over to Maranello Motorworks in central Denver to check in with the newly opened shop. I brought a case of Fat Tire. That made the guys happy. Tom and Bill there have been helpful to me on items for my car. It's a small world out there in f-car land. And you need to touch base with everybody! Robb Image Unavailable, Please Login
Ryan (Sherpa) is making progress on his F40 resto. Beautiful car. Can't wait to see it out again. Robb Image Unavailable, Please Login
And back over to the F40 Great details. I think he said the yellow lights were from a French model, but I don't know much about the F40's. Robb Image Unavailable, Please Login
