Hello All. I am the fool/crazy person who won the ebay auction for Eddie Van Halen's 348ts. She landed safely at my shop, Euroworld Motorsports in Houston, Texas, on Saturday. Dale Davis (at driven.co) was fantastic to work with and made the transaction as smooth as possible. We got the car up on the alignment rack and did an initial visual inspection. Although the car only has @9500 miles, it's still 25 yrs old and needs quite a bit of TLC. We will take a closer look at her this next week. We will start with a complete engine out service and simply start replacing things. I would like to make this thread the official record of bringing EVH's car back to life. Congratulations on the new 348. I will look forward to seeing your adventures so please post regularly with your experiences and TLC. Robb
Yes. It came with the original title, the originally issued license plate, and various nicknacks like an original issue of 1990 Guitar World where they named Eddie the 'guitar player of the decade'. There were also a set of EVH guitar strings and pics along with a key fob replica of his famous guitar. The only thing of actual value is the title/paperwork & original plate. We will also start a 3ring binder to document everything we do to her. At this point it looks like we will have to touch EVERYTHING throughout the process.
Congratulations on the new acquisition! I think the bandana on the rear view mirror is a nice touch and tribute to the original owner. Subscribe to the site and tell us more about yourself and the adventures that await you. Cheers, Henry
Congratulations! I didn't know EVH had a 348, it's a nice car with an interesting story. Waiting to see the process!
Congratulations, look forward to seeing the improvements. All the items that came with it are part of the story and you should keep them. I recently watched an episode of Wayne Carini where he bought a Volvo that belonged to Paul Newman and had many small trivial items that were in the car and said how important it was in such a purchase, not for financial value but just nice to have. Love the colour too
Since he bought the car, the op has deiced to bring back his "business in the front, party in the back" hair cut... it looks great on him!!!
Nice! Good luck in the TLC. Maybe see it on the Houston roads sometime. Enjoy! P.S. Do you have a web site for your shop? Jim
Yes, I have a site, but it is in development. I'm still working on the logo, pictures, and technical details to make it proper. Right now it's an embarrassment! As far as the timeframe for making the car roadworthy, we are looking at 6 months, minimum. It's a classic case of low mileage, high years - too many of them sitting. We're gonna have to touch EVERYTHING: I scared to know the 'shop supplies' bill on this one! The guys at 'sticky no more' will be getting a box of parts from us. My interior shop will have a full month's worth of work - I had forgotten Eddie was a smoker! Ricambi will be getting lots of orders from us. Will install LOTS of polyurethane bushings. Capristo will get an order from us. The good people at Girodisc will hear from us. Depending on condition, we might do an Ohlins suspension upgrade. Of course, Michelin stickies on all four corners! By the time we do a corner balance and alignment, we should have one very sweet 348 ready to roll!
Quick update on the car. I dropped it off at Michael Angelo's a few weeks back. Then promptly sent plastic bits to Sticky No More. Here are a couple of pics of the work done, so far: 1) The Seats. Image Unavailable, Please Login
