Jimmie, I think you misunderstood Emilio's question. He wasn't asking about the horsepower of the 348, he wants to know the 348's engine type, and where the engine number stamping can be located on the engine block.

Emilio, I don't know if the engine number is visible on the engine block when the engine is in the engine bay, but I've never been able to find/see it.

I have the engine type as F119G for the 348 tb, 348 ts, and 348 Spider; but I have the engine type as F119H for the 348 GTB and 348 GTS.

I don't suppose you or anyone else has a series of pictures that can act as a visual demonstration as to how someone can uncover and locate this information?

There are drawings indicating the location of the engine type and number markings in either the technical (owners) manual or the service manual (perhaps both). I'm sure someone with more time can provide a link to those downloads or you can do a bit of searching here and find the links. I think it's ferraridata.com, but may be way off...

As the engine number bears no relationship to the VIN, how do you know if it's the original engine to the car?

You can look at the casting date stamp on the block and heads, then compare the date stamped to the date on the manufacture plate. If the car was manufactured August of 1992 the casting stamp should be dated BEFORE August of the same year.
