did a search did not find anything related, at least in this section.. I was at my shop the other day.. and one of the mechanics asked me what gas I was using in my 1997 355.. I told him i interchage between 91 and 94 octane.. mostly 91, but depending where i am and where the price is at i'll put 94 sometimes.. personally I dont notice a difference when using either. the only thing maybe is a little better mileage with 94.. but the mechanic suggested next time you gas up try the Shell Vpower which is only 91. nonetheless, he suggested there is something about an ingredient in vpower that made his 308 run noticeably better.. idle better, run smoother etc.. so today would be almost time to gas up, so I did a leisurely cruise.. to get the tank near empty.. and filled up with the vpower.. so i'll see how the car runs with it.. let me know what you guys think or experienced with Vpower.. or does anyone know something specific about Vpower 91 that is superior to other 91's..? perhaps making it actually closer to or better then 94.
I make an effort to run only Vpower from Shell in my 355. But sometimes I settle for Exxon if I'm too lazy to find a Shell. I also pour in a can of BG 44k every 3 or 4 months.
Shells new Vpower gas is really good stuff I will use nothing else in my good cars. I recently went to see the results at Leno's garage for a serious test shell did. It confirmed everything they said. Test was highly scrutinized by top people in many industries All done live in front of us with all the Q&A we had. Was very impressed
Interesting, in the UK we used to have Shell V Power and a couple of years ago was upgraded to Shell V Power Nitro. Not sure what the difference from the previous version or how it compares to the US?
Nitro is the stuff Heres some of the test Just saw my ugly mug on the video LOL Stuff really works is all I can say Video: Shell V-Power NiTRO+ Drivers Relay concludes at Jay Leno's garage - LA Times
I had thought the pipelines in the US were such that the different brands couldn't really be sent separately to the distribution points and the only difference between brands was that additive package that was put in once at the tank farm?
I typically use Chevron Supreme 93, but a week ago I filled up with Shell V-Power Nitro+. I really wish I could say that my car responded better to it (more MPG, power, etc.) but I couldn't tell a difference. Shell starts selling 'premium-plus' gas
Fuel is where were going to be seeing the advancements that go with the tech on the motors Gas is not gas anymore
well I drove the rest if day with the fresh full up of shell Vpower 91. nothing really noticeable yet. although the mechanic said after couple tanks, is when he noticed the difference. so we'll see. perhaps it had more of an effect on a 308 then would a 355? nonetheless I'll continue with the Vpower for a while to see. however given I have access to 94oct at Petro Canada I don't see why the Vpower which is only 91 here be better?? that was more the angle I was curious about. meaning that although Vpower is 91 where I am is it still better then a 94?
Shell V-Power in Canada (at least Ontario) does not have any ethanol... 91 octane I don't know what other markets are like, but most fuels have up to 10% ethanol. My understanding is that ethanol has less energy density than gasoline and has nasty effects on fuel system components (vintage cars) and can vapor lock a lot easier as well. I use Shell V-power in my car See #11 http://www.shell.ca/en/products-services/shell-for-drivers/fuels/shell-vpower/faq.html
no Ethonal is great. but at the shell station I gased up at in Montreal pretty sure it was just Vpower. not Vpower Nitro+? so I wonder if the normal Vpower contains Ethonal?
I have read BG44k only lasts 24 hours in the tank so to get the best of it after adding run tank close to dry. Is this true?
Yes, most of the effective ingredients will dissipate. Use it immediately I have the pressurized combustion chamber cleaner and going to test it on a car with bad leak down numbers before I pull the engine apart. These cars really suffer from buildup Here is part 1 of a video follow it to part 2 for a good time with happy ending [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTkZn0efRmc[/ame]
Shell V Power is Australia is 98 octane, apparently. Shell Premium is 95 and Shell standard is 91. Then we have E85, which is complete rubbish.
The normal V-power in Canada has no ethanol as per the Web link I posted earlier. In Ontario, the pumps clearly state no ethanol. I was at the Italian car day in Montreal and filled with Shell on the way home, interestingly the pump did not state no ethanol but according to the website - no ethanol in the 91 octane V-power. Trust me, ethanol is not great (not sure if you are for it or against it). Compare the energy density between gasoline and ethanol and you will see why Shell does not add it to the V-power fuel.
I looked at the pump all over and did not see any labeling anywhere that there was ethanol or not. I guess can only assume that there isn't.
the highest I know available in Canada is 94 octane. offered only at PetroCanada stations. thus my question again; am I better off to go with the higher 94oct OR use the available Vpower here which is only 91. I don't see how whatever it is about Vpower 91 that would make it better then a 94.
