This has been a great year and an exciting couple of weeks.

I have had great trips this year to see other F355 owners who added Capristo exhausts to their cars. There was Cuneo in San Francisco, Luke in Maryland, and Glenn in Calgary to name a few. They were great to get together with to experience the cars and of course hear the great exhaust notes. I was sold each time.

We have been making great progress on our challenge car restoration and I had planned to add one of the final pieces to my '95 Berlinetta - the Capristo Exhaust.

I found out that another F355 challenge car owner had become a full sponsor here and was a full Capristo dealer. I called Michael up ( Yellow Compass Group ? Options For Drivers ) and found out the specifics on what could be offered for my car.

I read through all the other threads here on Ferrarichat about the differences between the Stage numbers (or sound numbers). Mike indicated that you had basically 2 options for our F355's if you want the F1 scream.

Stage or sound 1/3 is normally in stock and is quieter at idle and lower rpm's (like the stock OEM exhaust) and F1 crazy at higher rpm's and full throttle when the bypass opens up - just like all those great videos on YouTube.
Stage or sound 2/3 is a special order item (not shown on their site - like a secret handshake) that is similar in noise level to a tubi at lower rpm's (so it is louder) and also F1 crazy at higher rpm's and full throttle.

Both of these are identical at full throttle - think a tubi turned up from a 9 to a 12... On the top end.

So I decided to wait the time needed (2-3 weeks) and special ordered the Stage 2/3. It was one of those moments on our Ferrari bucket lists... I had always wanted a Capristo for my car so I could have the greatest sound possible on this great car.

Mike got my exhaust delivered early after about two weeks fedex'd from Germany and I was set to begin getting it on the car... :)

Congrats Robb. The 2/3 is the only way to go in my opinion.

Can't wait to hear your impressions.

Your going to love it, the money will seem well spent!!!!!

On a side note, if anyone bought a 2/3 and feels like they went a step too far and wants to swap for a 1/3 let me know.

Congrats Rob! I am jealous. As a side note, when I looked at getting one for my 355 Challenge I mentioned that I was running 360 Challenge headers and thus no Y pipe that normally goes into the top of the Capristo muffler. They told me they could make one without the top port. Tempting for sure but if, and I heavily accentuate the IF, I were to ever consider selling the Capristo separately I thought having no top entry would limit who would be willing to buy. I wonder if the sound changes if you just block off the top entry?

So the first thing we had to do was remove the current Tubi exhaust on the car.

First step - remove the air boxes. You'll need a 10mm socket

Sorry my engine bay was a bit dusty. We'll be addressing cleaning it thoroughly this weekend... :)

Two clips to unfasten top and bottom each side. This install is on my '95 so there will be slight differences and extra steps for a '96-'99 car.

With the heat shield removed, you can now see the bypass pipe and bypass valve connecting to the upper pipe on the tubi and the exhaust hangers holding the muffler in place.

So what sound level is the twin valve that I have. My understanding fromthem is it is 2-3.

Grant, your twin sound is a 2/3 and is very loud as my daughter and I among the other stooges can attest. Your exhaust gains you extra hp but loses the F1 shriek.

But for others wanting that instead, the loud boom coming out of it was ground pounding...

Also the 99 have cats built into the bypass pipes and i thought the 95 does not. This might also make the shriek better on a 95.

No, the 95's have secondary cats stock just like 5.2's.

Good luck Robb! You'll love it. Just wait until you get in a tight canyon with huge rocks on both sides...
