Hi, sadly I don't own a Ferrari, but recently helped my brother in Canada with some diagnostic issues with his 348 TB and thought the info might be of use to others.

His 348 developed a misfire and his local Ferrari garage couldn't work out what was wrong. I did some research and discovered the ecu diagnostic button that his car should have, not sure what the garage were doing but it went on for weeks with them achieving nothing.

Then in an email he said his 348 didn't have the diagnostic button, a quick bit of googling reveal the wiring loom is no longer available but the button is. I bought one from here - Ferrari 348 (2.7 Motronic) - Air Injection - Ignition: Page 007 | Order Online Eurospares

a bit more googling and I found a picture of the unavailable loom attached. As I've worked on lots of bikes I recognized the connector as a 3 way superseal like the one here 3*Way AMP 1.5 Series Superseal Wiring Connector*Kit With Boots (Wire Size Options)

Dash bulbs were missing but they're just standard ones - t5 wedge bulbs as far as I could tell.

So I bought the ferrari button for £5 and made the loom using 2 90 degree spade connectors, some loom covering, 2 bits of shrink tube and one 3 way superseal connector as shown in the attached jpeg, wire colours don't matter, in fact they should really be the same as its the same circuit. You could use any momentary button switch, but it wouldn't fit into the bodywork. Another option would be to use any switch on a longer loom, so that you could activate it from the driver's seat whilst doing diagnostics.

The larger photo also shows which two connectors need to be wired.

All this does is make a momentary connection to tell the ecu to go into diagnostic mode and flash the dash lights.

Sent it to Canada and within a few mins of fitting they diagnosed a broken crank sensor wire.

Hope this helps someone in the future.

    regards

    Mike.

Funny how things turn out... I recently bought a Canadian spec 348 tb and will use this thread to install the diagnostics buttons.

Ready for plug and play... sourcing the parts now.

Ordered two buttons from Daniel at Ricambi and the AMP connectors from 3 Way Components Ltd (via eBay). However, the connector on my ECU has three wires, so off to the schematics I go...

For the archives, the switch in my late '91 US spec car is across the gray/red and black wires in the ECU connector. I've used it to access codes so I know it does work. Hopefully it will work for Wade as well.

Looks like the wiring diagram is incorrect in this case.

Some of us are lazier than you, Tim. ;)

OBD1 often doesn't identify the problem in its entirety like the newfangled cars do, but it's nice to get pointed in the right direction (most of the time).

Besides, we OCD types like everything to function correctly on our cars. :)

Ha! You may be OCD, but you ain't lazy. Lazy is deciding you like the car but wish it was a different color combo, so you buy another example of the same model in the right colors but don't sell the first example because it's too much trouble. ;)

Looking at the arrangement of the wires used in relationship to the connectors (think locking feature side down), yours conforms to the OP's and the OEM harness.

So yes, the WSM is incorrect because the grey/red and black wires are used. Not grey/red and grey/brown.

    Hello,
Wishing to do the diag on my EU Vehicle with the help of this post,
I realize that I have a version of the repair guide with only the schematics of the motronic 2.5 catalysed or not and a legend stopping at number 212.
Would you among you a nice Ferrarist to give me the opportunity to download it (MP)
    Salutations de France.

    Merci beaucoup,

    Thank you very much,
I download in my folder :)
Are there any other changes in the repair manual?
If so, would it be possible to recover it?
Thanks again for all the information that helps us to maintain our 348 no matter which country we are in.

See the thread on "348 ABS ecu power". I have posted there the instrument cluster diagrams that are not in the usual WSM.

I'm working to equip my Canadian-spec car with this button.

Is there any magic with the button itself? Is it a simple momentary pushbutton that connects the two pins when depressed (0 resistance)? (I don't want to try something from the junk drawer if this button is more sophisticated than I'm assuming.)
