Wow thats awesome of you for sharing. Looks great! Tables with wood blocks work great for us though since they fit every model haha. We try to keep 1 table per lift.
We used those yellow (factory) tables in the F-dealerships I worked in. Major pain in the Ass lining bolt holes up. Nobody liked them. A hydraulic table with a set of short axle stands on it means it's a quick, single man operation to remove and instal...
Yeah it's all about what ever the specific tech is comfortable working with. Our shop floors are beat to hell and uneven from being a school bus repair shop before us. It's the same thing as the Porsche CGT engine table. You have to mark the floor exactly where you had the cart or it will take you hours to line it back up again. Next time around we just shimmed away with wood blocks on a basic table. We work on allot of different models so it's hard floor space wise to keep model specific carts anyways. Very nice of Dave to give away the specs for free though, I'm sure you could park a house on his cart.
Eddie, not sure what you used but mine allows all nice access to stuff and it was very simple to use. A table below blocks access not to mention with mine, it's fully supported and no worry of knocking off blocks..... Also have caster plates for moving the body around.... Dave, that table is pretty much what we used as dealer Techs. You need two people for pull/instal and if you have an uneven floor even by 1mm or self levelling lifts the bolts won't re-align with the body holes without a bit of grief. Probably acceptable for DIY, but if your doing this day in day out you want an easy life. Therefore most specialists will use a generic table and blocks or a hydraulic table and stands....
Eddie, with mine I did it myself with my dad just watching so I did not forget to disconnet something My floor is decent but for reinstalling, a simple floor jack in one corner of the lower cross brace will allow for minor adjustments. When I remove the bolts, the frame did not drop a mm - it was a perfect fit. I know factory techs from multiple dealerships that use the stand you mention and they told me they like it (which is why I made mine). Everyone does things different so to each his own. For me, I also wanted to move around the engine and cradle and know it would be secure.
This is a sponsors thread that many are looking forward to seeing. Stop hijacking it. How would you like it another vendor jumped on your thread telling you how to do your process differently? Let Dan present his work!
Whatever works best for you Dave! Nice of you to post that link with the diagrams though. As I say, over in U.K most specialists and dealers alike have ditched those frames at least ten years ago for more efficient tooling. Again, whichever works best for you!
Oh please. No-one is hijacking anything. Dans excellent work Is not under any scrutiny. You are the one hijacking......
It's all good, Eddie. When I was designing it, some suggested making adjustable corner sections. That was a good suggestion but I did not want to complicate the design and figured a floor jack and boards / shims under the wheels would be all that's needed for minor adjustments. Have a good one
I like Dave. He needs to keep his sales pitch stuff out of Bradan's thread. That too cryptic for you?
No need to get upset guys. It's nice to know of multiple options and ways to do things. When we started out we were doing majors on jack stands. It really doesn't matter how you do it and long as it's safe and efficient for the tech. Anyways we need a change of topic to cool things off. Who's everyone voting for and why?
Randy, I have no desire to "sales pitch" in Bradan's thread. My post was sincere to offer them free drawings I have provided to the community. I'm sorry you view this as a sales pitch instead of taking it at face value.
I really appreciate input from contributors like Dave and Bradan. Your threads make this site worth visiting. Peoples pinions are just that and contribute little to the community. If you really want this thread to go sideways, start discussing politics
+1. It has been years since Dan has been posting here. I love his threads and want to see them continue. I learn a lot and appreciate the time he takes to do it. Some may not recall, but there were some threads that went all sideways years back that began the downturn in these rebuild posts. Lets not do that again. Thanks Bradan...keep calm and carry on
